"The service is poor, with staff training desperately needed. The hotel ran out of some popular wine, with no plausible explanation as to why. The breakfast menu had sausages on several dishes. They were out of sausages for several days. The hotel did not supply newspapers, even when requested. We had wine glasses (given as a gift) removed from our room by house services with No explanation as to why. It was an effort to retrieve them. The Hotel markets themselves 5 Star accomodation. It’s a long way off 5 Star. We will not be returning there."

The Carriages

"My wife and I chose Carriages as a base for our visit to the Hunter Valley to attend a friend's wedding. This is the kind of place that you really hope to find when you're spending a few days away, but seldom do. Our room was one of six on the ground floor, arranged along a long shared verandah. There are two other rooms on a floor above that have private balconies. The verandah looks out on a large lawn with shady trees. There is a tennis court and a pool nearby. The room was unfussy and well appointed, with adjoining bathroom and shower. There was a small service area with toaster, electric kettle and plates and cutlery. Tea and coffee (fresh ground for plunger) was provided. Bed was a comfortable queen size. Everything was clean and well-serviced. A 'mini bar' was stocked with beers, an assortment of snacks, and wines from the Carriages vineyards. Our room came with breakfast, which was brought to the verandah in the morning in a picnic hamper. The excellent continental-style fare consisted of fresh croissants, fresh fruit salad, fresh orange juice, muesli, yoghurt and grain bread for toasting, with an assortment of condiments. The Carriages environment is among vineyards and situated away from the main house. It was quiet and relaxing, with bird life and the occasional kangaroo transiting the lawn. Our hosts were convivial and attentive without being intrusive. Carriages is a short walking distance to both The Convent and Circa 1876, which makes it an ideal place to stay if attending events at either of those venues. It's also close driving distance to most of the main Hunter Valley vineyards and attractions. I highly recommend this hotel, and would make it my preferred stay on any further visits to the Hunter Valley. "

"Seeking a long weekend escape, my partner and I stayed at Tower Lodge and from the moment we arrived we knew it would be a special experience. From check-in on Friday to to check-out on Sunday everything on offer at Tower Lodge was magnificent. Staff were professional, highly attentive and very helpful - special call-out to Sam, Rachel, Brooke, Alyssa and Ella for the outstanding service. Our suite was immaculate and luxurious - a large, spacious room, beautifully styled and furnished, with an extremely comfortable bed and an expensive bathroom including a large bath. We had dinner both nights at the Tower Lodge Restaurant and breakfast both mornings. Sensational food and wine in a lovely, romantic setting. A great fine-dining experience. Tower Lodge is truly world class - we look forward to returning."

"Palmers Lane Estate was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday with friends. We stayed in Lodge 10 (6 bedrooms) and Lodge 3 (3 bedrooms). The Lodges were well equipped and so comfortable. The wood fire was cosy and we had a ball. Some inquisitive kangaroos and lots of birdlife visit the 50 hectares of Palmers Estate. They have a newly renovated swimming pool and there is a tennis court. The estate is easy to walk and you can do a lap of the grounds in around 20 - 30 minutes. A short walk to John Wallace and Horner Wines for wine tasting then on to Dinner at Kawul which is at Calais Wines. Wifi and Bluetooth reception is good too. Sandra and Guy are great hosts and went the extra mile to make our stay so memorable. Fabulous weekend! Will definitely return. "

"Great location, several wineries very nearby. The owners were helpful to check us in remotely using key pin and drop box. The pool and grounds are relaxing on a warm day after touring the valley. The property looks “rustic”, in keeping with provincial charm. everything functioned well and we hope to rebook on future visits."
