Lovely location set in tranquil surroundings of Oud Poelgeest park. Comfortable room and nice bar/restaurant. We enjoyed our stay and will be back as it is so conveniently located near to friends and family as well as local shopping area and other places of interest.

Visited the castle for a varied musical festival activity (did not sleep there). It is a great and beautiful location for such an event. The park around the castle is also very attractive and suitable for a walk. Drinks and snacks were available both in the castle bar and in the separate restaurant building.

Nice hotel on a estate. The castle is next door to the hotel. But you can wonder on the estate and feel like you are in a forrest. Leiden Centrum is a 20 minute walk or take the bus that leaves accross the entrance. Dogs are allowed but not at the breakfast area but they can make a table for you in the lobby. Free parking and the room was good. Big enough and a nice separate toilet and shower. Little balcony as well and good wifi. We did not go but there was option to have dinner in the castle.

Hotel rooms are on two floors of extension to coach house, motel style - characterless. On arrival we had been given a first floor room but needed help with our cases to climb the steep spiral staircase, a bit of a struggle each time we went up & down. The room was clean & comfortable but the separate WC & shower room were both very tiny. We reported to reception that our sink plug was not working so could not fill the bowl with water for a wet shave etc. However, after speaking to the maintenance man, we were told that the plug was “inoperable & just for show”. Not very helpful! Also, we had not been advised until we went into dinner, that the set 5-course menu would be exactly the same every day in April, meaning we would have to eat the same meal all four nights of our stay! Since we don’t eat either mussels (the fish course), nor Gorgonzola (the cheese course), I chose the remaining 3 courses of panzanella (herby bread salad), pork chop with white beans & strawberry gateaux. My husband did not fancy anything so had only a beer & some dessert. We had a discussion with the manager regarding the lack of alternatives & he merely suggested we "take a taxi to Leiden as there are plenty of restaurants there". However, we used Google to research closer options & found there were a couple just a few minutes drive which we could have walked to in 15-20 minutes.

We had an amazing stay. The staff was great from the start; welcoming, personable and service minded. A lovely red haired receptionist really went the extra mile, but they were all great. The rooms are contemporary and clean but fairly hot during summer as the hotel lacks AC and elevator, due to the building being protected as I understand it. The castle and hotel are situated in fairytale surroundings, in a park with shadowing trees that give a feeling of being in an enchanted forest :) It is lovely. We had a good four course dinner with very friendly and attentive staff. The server Bart is very knowledgeable about both wine and beer and he nailed it every time! The breakfast was below par though with a sad looking spread. We will come back again.

Our daughter and her family enjoyed this hotel with us. We all loved it. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast and bar area. Our daughter also had her dog & it was perfect for walking. We went to Keukenhopf for the day. Would definitely recommend.

Booked for four nights but whilst restaurant was open in the evening there was only one choice for the week. Two or three very good restaurants close by but we were not advised despite making enquiries about alternatives,. Breakfast very average. Room OK but shower and toilet area very small.

So happy that we chose this hotel! We came just overnight for the 2022 Flower Parade & Keukenhof, which is very handy to this location. But, now that we have been, we will recommend to our friends and come back, even just to eat in the fantastic restaurant. Bus 50 (a 5 min walk from the hotel to the bus stop) dropped us off directly at our viewing location for the Flower Parade, on the outskirts of Lisse. Keukenhof is 15min by car. The hotel is located in a lovely forest setting on the outskirts of Leiden. Our room was large with modern decor and super-comfy twin beds, pushed together. There is no air conditioning but, as it's only April, we opened the window for fresh air and were fine. But the hi-light of our stay was dinner at the hotel restaurant. The setting is classy; the room dimly lit, which I love. We chose the 'chef's surprise' 3-course option, with wine pairings. The meal was memorable, wines paired perfectly and we considered it to be a great value. I 100% recommend this hotel as the perfect base to explore the tulip region!

In eerste instantie werd ik niet geholpen in het restaurant want het was gesloten voor particulieren. Maar omdat ik zakelijk onderweg was, mocht ik wel plaats nemen en zou de tafel gedekt worden en het menu worden toegelicht. Echter, na 20 minuten wachten ben ik maar opgestaan en het dorp ingereden. Daar een goede Argentijn gevonden: aanrader! Een bijzondere rare manier om met je gasten om te gaan.
