The Historic Mayfair Hotel Times Square, Ascend Hotel Collection

We arrived at the hotel for my wife’s birthday at 11.40pm at night after a long delayed travel day all across the continent. When we arrived I was told our room had been given away. The booking was done by my travel agent and the cancellation policy clearly stated that if we wanted to cancel it must be done by 6pm or a penalty will apply (they had my credit card). Nowhere did it say they simply leave you high and dry at midnight without a room. The rude, dismissive way we were treated was unlike anything we have ever experienced. No apology, no suggestions, no attempt to assist. Nothing. The man that served us could literally care less whether it was a massive inconvenience, or whether we slept on the street. So in this review as a warning that if you are hell bent on staying at this hotel, don’t expect a room. One thing you can be sure of is a level of rudeness that is rare and they won’t care one way or another if it ruins your entire vacation. Be warned!

Very quaint, clean hotel with friendly staff. Safe area. Comfortable bed and pillows The one downside is the lack of storage space other than a small desk. There is a closet. But other than that you need to literally live out of your suitcase. My room was fine for one person but it would have been tight for 2 people.

I saw the mouse in the room. It was a terrible experience. If want to repeat my mistake you have to stay in this hotel. The worst situation was when they rejected refund my money even after a claim. I hope a special authority will check this hotel.

We were there soon after it was re-open after a major renovation. Location is great, central to everything. Only half a block to the nearest subway. The area is safe enough to walk around without having to worry too much but keep in mind this is NYC. The room size is reasonable for a room in major metro like NYC or Tokyo. The bed was comfy and everything looked clean and in well working order. Would definitely return to this hotel anytime.

Went to NYC for an overnight for a show and was thrilled this hotel was almost directly across the street from the theater. Every staff member I spoke with from check in to check out was pleasant and polite. The Boutique bedroom was quite small BUT contained what I needed. A very comfy/cozy bed, a private bathroom w/shower and a closet. Everything was tight and I did laugh quite often at how many times I bumped by knee into the bedframe. There was a TV and a desk as well. Everything was clean - I was happy with the room. I would not recommend the Boutique room for a couple, but would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay near the theaters. Several pubs nearby, CVS/Walgreens, grocery store, etc. All in all, I will be back.

A small European style Hotel with a few nice surprises Although the Double room was tiny, It was very comfortable with lovely linens that you would expect in a luxury hotel. Very comfortable bed, good wi-fi and a real plus was its own heating/ cooling unit. He hotel was super quiet and clean the staff was extremely nice and helpful. I understand that the Queen and King rooms are quite spacious. Located in a superb location, this hotel offers great value all around

Seems to me in NY there are many options. Next time I won’t pick this one. Location is good, room is adequate. What is causing my 2 stars is the petty charges. $2 a bag to store it when we check out and want to spend more money on NYC before leaving. But the real part that is too much is $25 a day for local phone calls, a gym pass I was never told about, (but is 3 blocks away) and the worst coffee I have ever tasted in the lobby. The real room rate is not what was advertised. I would have happily paid that amount for amenities that are worth it like a sauna, or drinkable coffee. Will not rebook this hotel.

I had to SLEEP ON THE FLOOR. Make sure you double check your booking by calling them. Their third-party service (that sends the available room list to the travel/booking agencies) listed the WRONG ROOM TYPE as available. "TWO DOUBLE BEDS" it said, in all caps, on the booking site (Chase Travel). I booked that, expecting two beds, and on arrival, turned out it was a single bed. Despite going back and forth with the hotel and Chase, neither parties were able to offer anything for me, no refund, no rebooking somewhere else, nothing. Best the hotel could do is offer me ~$30, for a $312.34 booking. Unacceptable. It was too late for me to book somewhere else for a reasonable price/location. I had no choice but to use the room and sleep on the floor. The Hotel or Chase was unable to book somewhere else, or help in any way. The Mayfair hotel people said: "it's out of our hands", "it's the third-party service's fault", "we can't do anything about it", "contact Chase Travel" When contacting Chase Travel: "it's out of our hands", "it's the third-party service's fault", "we can't do anything about it" Of the four parties involved - The hotel, the third-party listing service, Chase Travel, the customer (me), I was was the one who had to pay for the third-party service's mistake. What? Note: Chase Travel is not the third-party service. The third-party service is some random company that sits between the Mayfair Hotel and travel services like Chase. This third-party service is at fault for the erroneous "TWO DOUBLE BEDS" listing. Mayfair Hotel and Chase just shuffled the responsibility between each other, blaming the third-party service. This left me with no recourse. Mayfair Hotel is the one with ultimate responsibility here, they are the ones who contract the third-party service to post listings. They should have refunded me, or rebooked me somewhere else, at no cost to me, then figure out the problem with their service. Nope. YOU pay for the mistake. So don't book here. At Mayfair Hotel, it is YOUR responsibility to pay for THEIR third-party service's mistake. You'd think too they could have an extra portable bed they could provide in situations like this, but apparently they lack the foresight of some mistake like this happening. I would have been much more okay with this situation if they provided this extra bed. Nope, had to use the existing bedding! Basically sleeping on the floor, with just a mere blanket for padding.
