"We were on holiday with our 3-year-old daughter and we loved it!! The hotel is very quiet, far from the crowds that the Algarve often has, and it's only a 5-minute drive from Praia da Luz beach. It's not luxurious, but everything is very tidy, well-maintained and clean, and it has a very nice outdoor pool area. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, and the breakfast was very good. We always had dinner at the hotel and it was all great too, a buffet dinner with very well-prepared food, we liked everything! And I have to highlight the friendliness of all the staff, especially the gentleman in charge of the dining area, he was very kind to us and very attentive to details for our daughter. The only less good aspect to mention is really the dinner time, which is only served until 9 pm. We found it too early for someone on holiday and in the middle of the summer season, when you try to enjoy the beaches as much as possible. In our opinion, this is the only aspect that could be improved, at least during the summer season."

"This is a lovely spot. All staff super helpful. Spotless and spacious apartments. Good breakfast and Excellent food at pool bar. Walk to front beach and restaurants is 5 minutes , slight incline coming back but a few ways to come some nearly flat. We enjoyed the restaurant next door chiccas several nights . A really lovely stay, we will be back!"

"Beautiful resort/apartment, would have been a 5 stars review ruined by the ridiculous, humiliating "security deposit" policies. Details: stayed there for 5 days in Sep, at check in paid for the apartment with a credit card without any problem. Then they tried "to put a hold for 250 euros", but the way they do it is rejected by American-issued credit/debit cards (I tried 3 by major US issuers). I offered them to actually charge my card and then debit it later, then told them they actually have my card in their system since I booked directly and paid the deposit. They flatly refused everything and forced me to run to the ATM. To get our money back I had to go to reception multiple times to schedule a "walk through by a maintenance supervisor". BTW we are a couple in their 60s, highly unlikely to travel the world trashing hotel rooms..."

"We booked a one week stay through Easyjet, flying from Southend. Whilst at the airport Easyjet contacted us to say that there would not be anyone on reception and they would email instructions, which they did. We arrived at 2am and there was someone there to meet us, find our key and show us to the room. A very pleasant surprise. The apartment was good, clean and functional. The lady on reception was lovely and couldn't do enough to help us. The pool area was clean and tidy. There as a bar area but that was never open during our stay. Positives Well equipped Clean Very well located Quiet Friendly Great resort A couple of niggles/negatives: No bedside table one side of the bed. An absolute must for us, but we made do with a chair. The head on the shower was split. The first shower we had, soaked the room and I mean soaked. The state of the bottom of the door we weren't the first to do this as the wood was splitting. We learnt to just not have the water turned on as much - the water pressure was fierce. Would we stay again - definitely."

Luz Bay Hotel

"I write this review as someone who has visited the Algarve, specifically Praia da Luz, at least once a year the past 20 years or so. The positives: the location, it has a pool. The negatives: it is not a 4 star hotel. I don't know where they get their ratings from but whoever rated it 4* should be suspended, sacked or shot. Preferably shot. My room developed a leak through a crack in the ceiling creating a large puddle at the end of my room. The solution I would have expected to such an issue would be to move me. Nope. The cleaner came in, mopped up both ceiling and floor only for it to return later in the day. You pay for wifi per device per day. Ridiculous from a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was edible. Just. Which is a crying shame as Portuguese food is out of this world when done properly. I couldn't close the windows in my bathroom. As such had creepy insects invade my room. I thoroughly recommend visiting Praia da Luz, great little place not far from Lagos with a cracking beach, just don't book here unless you expect nothing more than a truly basic hotel with a medium sized pool. Like I say, good location but that's about it. Needs some investment and lessons in customer service. Has potential, but falls drastically short."

"We had a truly wonderful stay at Vila Valverde. The property is beautifully designed, surrounded by peaceful gardens and offering stunning views. Everything is spotless and very well maintained. The staff are exceptionally friendly, attentive, and always willing to help — they really make you feel welcome from the first moment. Breakfast, served at the table, was delicious and added to the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a few stress-free days in a beautiful setting. We’re already looking forward to coming back! Thank you to the entire Vila Valverde team for an unforgettable stay"
