L'Antica Bifore

I thought this was the perfect location to stay at in Lucca. The history of the hotel was amazing and it was decorated perfectly in keeping with it’s heritage. The amenities were all of great quality and communal sitting room was a wonderful place to relax with a coffee. The owner was so knowledgeable and helpful he made our stay very memorable. He advised to go to a Puccini recital and also the Puccini museum which is actually in the house that he was born and brought up in. It really added to our stay.

In seeking lodging in the city of Lucca, we found the L'Antica Bifore Guesthouse, and we were intruiged. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised that, despite it's medieval character, the guesthouse was complete with contemporary amenities, and very charming. We had communicated with Alessandro, the owner, prior to our stay, and I cannot say enough about his hospitality. He responded quickly to every inquiry, and provided so much information. He organized a private vineyard tour, with a cooking class, made our dinner reservations, and served a delightful breakfast every morning. This location could not have been better; steps away from the very busy crossroads of Via Fillungo and Via Roma, and within walking distance of every corner of the walled city of Lucca. If you are looking for something contemporary, but with Old World charm, you should definitely contact Alessandro about a stay at L'Antica Bifore Guesthouse.

Great location in the centre of Lucca. Very clean and incredible welcoming host. Alessandro was a great help in recommending restaurants and even organised an excellent wine tasting for us in the hills above Lucca. Only slight drawback was the noise at night although this is what you would expect from a central location (and ear plugs were supplied!). Thoroughly recommend.

We stayed here for one night and wish we had stayed for much longer. The photos do not represent just how excellent this very special place is. We arrived by a limousine from Pisa, organised by the owners. That worked really well and the driver was nice. Our plane was late, so Alessandro, the owner arranged for us to be dropped off in the restaurant where he works, saving us a table and keeping the kitchen open. What a brilliant meal to start off our holiday. Entry into L'Antica Before was so easy, with very clear instructions. But when we entered the building we just said "Wow". Surely the most historic and beautiful place we had ever seen. We slept well and then Alessandros partner Alice arrived next morning with the most delicious box of pastries and juices. Alice was surely one of the nicest people around - a lovely lady who gave us lots of advice as to what to go and see in and around the city. We were only here for the one night, but wished it had been more. We will return. Five stars really isn't enough - it deserves 10 out of 5 at least 8-).

What a beautiful historic B & B in the heart of Lucca. We stayed 4 nights in the Dante room with gorgeous views of the church across the road. The hosts Alice and Alessandro were amazing, responding straight away with requests and so helpful with suggestions. Alice felt like a good friend by the time we left. The room is stunning and had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean, despite the age of the building. The bed is comfy and the shower was great. You are right in the heart of Lucca, so are spoilt for choices for cafes and restaurants. I highly recommend this B and B and can't wait to return

We absolutely love places to stay like L’Antica Bifore due to the history and the charm. The guesthouse is in the heart of lovely Lucca (and within the ZTL). It was an easy walk from the parking garage outside the ZTL to L’Antica Bifore. We stayed in the Paradiso Room with its beautiful windows and lovely frescoes. The guesthouse is upstairs and just occupies a portion of the floor but it is very private and quiet. There is a central dining room from which the guest rooms branch off but Alice, the host, brings a wonderful basket of delicious foods to your room in the morning when you are ready for it. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. The building dates back to the 12th century and hosted Dante. It was across a narrow alley from the Chiesa di San Cristoforo which dates back to 1053.It has been deconsecrated but serves as a chapel to memorialize those who died in WWII. Our first night in Lucca, unbeknownst to us until it was too late to attend, there was a beautiful classical music performance at the church but we were able to open our windows and listen to the entire concert. If you want a modern hotel with lots of people around to address your needs, this is not it. But if you, as we were, are looking for incredible and kind hospitality, a very clean and comfortable room full of history, and little, personal touches that make a stay so perfect, then L’Antica Bifore is the best place.
