Enorme Maya Beach

Until 2023 we had never returned to the same venue for a holiday “too many places to visit” but we had such a lovely time, quiet, relaxed, no kids, good food, friendly staff and small resort. The Maya is a lovely well run multi nationality hotel 30% UK 70 % European. Half board is the booking, food is great standard as buffet style breakfast and main meals with differing cuisines each night. We would recommend the Junior suit sea view and just kick back, the surrounding area is a bit sp**** but if you want to switch off this is the place.

We stayed in a junior suite for a week towards the end of the season. The room was on the first floor (it should be noted that there are no lifts) above the reception which fronted on to a fairly narrow road which even though it was a quieter point in the season there was a reasonable amount of traffic including regular coaches doing the drop off/pickups. The room was a good size with a bedroom and lounge area which had a sofa bed in it, a desk/dressing table with the tea/coffee making facilities on it and the floor to ceiling wardrobes where there was a small fridge and safe. The TV was in the bedroom and we found it slightly strange that it wasn't central to the bed, it did have a HDMI port which we were able to link up our laptop to and watch anything via any available streaming services, especially as signal quality of some of the channels was poor. We found all the staff to be really friendly and helpful with service in the restaurant, pool area and bar prompt and efficient. Food was varied with a different theme each night, always plenty of options including vegetarian with a clear label out for most although not all of them, yet the staff were always happy and willing to advise if asked. We tended to have lunch from the bar menu while lounging round the pool. The pool area was fairly small with around 70 sun loungers of different types around it and a mixture of fixed and moveable sun shades. The resort sits under the approach flight path to the airport so there is a regular stream of aircraft passing over head throughout the day. The only frustration we had was with regard to smoking and vaping. having experienced other resorts where it was prohibited entirely yet there was a seating area right next the restaurant where other guests would sit before/after eating to smoke or vape with the resulting emissions drifting across the diners.

Where to start ? 1) The hotel. We were very pleasantly surprised, as the Enorme Mayer Beach was not our first choice, however, everything was better than expected the food, accommodation, pool, and site were for us just right. The beaches for sea bathing however were some distance away. 2) The staff were exceptional, very friendly, pleasant and going well out of their way to be helpful. Two of the staff standout, the manager "Pandu" and Niki "Duracell" That is not to take anything away from the exceptional qualities of his team. In fact, they made our holiday. By the way, best of luck to Niki, who is leaving to further her future as a Nutritionist. And Manfred your special water was the best !. 3)Things to do, take a stroll to the Gouves shopping centre along the beach front. Or take a ride on the train around the resort, hopping on or off as required. Using the bus (walk from the hotel up the road from hotel 10 m1ns.to the bus stop at the "T" junction) to the Capital, at the bus terminus look out for the stand for the "Red" Hop on off open-top bus. This is highly recommended. Last, but not least 50 yards from the hotel there is a very pleasant sports bar The Anfield, This also is very highly recommended. Just make sure that the hosts Hanna and Thomas know you have been recommended by the Anfield Front Row for "Brownie Points" 4) Just to let you know we went by Jet 2 Great no hassle, Door to Door

Just enjoyed a lovely week long break at this hotel. It was a last minute booking for us (sunshine required!) and we were not disapointed. The hotel is comfortable and not too large and the pool faciltiies were great for us. We stayed half board - not something we have done before as we usually prefer to try local restaurants - but we were very satisfied with the range of food, its quality and the restaurant ambience. Great choices at breakfast and evening - both buffet and al a carte were appreciated. We also enjoyed the open air bar overlooking Dia Island - lovely for mid morning coffee and evening cocktails. We stayed in a junior suite with sea view - had to ask for a change of room initially as sea view wasn't great but that was managed efficiently for us. ALL the staff were very pleasant, friendly and polite - really could not be faulted. Indeed they helped make the holiday so enjoyable. We enjoyed the spa experience offered. It was end of season when we stayed so some local bars and restaurants were closing but we managed to find some good places for lunch by the sea. Used the local bus service twice to travel into Heraklion - cost was very cheap and service was good. Heraklion well worth visiting (30 minute bus journey). As some other reviewers have stated - some of the poolside furniture and gym equipment (although we didnt use it) would benefit from a refresh but it did not really detract from the overall experience.

Just returned from a ten day stay here. What a great find it was. It's a lovely little hotel in a great location. The staff were really friendly, and couldn't have done more for us. We had a lovely room that had a great balcony with sun the whole day. We were half board, and the food at breakfast and in the evening was exceptional. We're definitely hoping to return next year.

We had a lovely holiday, the staff are wonderful, the food is superb, I was lucky enough to get a 1 on 1 Yoga class with a very experienced and knowledgeable lady.. it was a great experience. A very relaxing and easy going hotel. I would recommend the day trip on the sailing boat (fantasia yachting), swimming in beautiful bay and served a wonderful lunch.

We really loved our recent stay. On arrival we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who checked us in, gave us a glass of prosecco each which was a nice touch and then gave us a mini tour on the way to our room. Our room was really lovely and clean, had everything we needed except an iron but that isn't a necessity, could also do with extra hangers and towel rails or hooks but we managed. The bed was really comfy and we both slept really well. Food - breakfast was yummy with plenty to choose from. We ate in the main restaurant once and were disappointed there wasn't any Greek dishes, but it may have just been that one night where there wasn't any so could have just been unlucky for us! Food was good though but we chose to go to local Tavernas the other nights. We did use the a la carte restaurant and were really impressed, it was delicious with lots of choice. This same restaurant produces the snack bar lunch menu too and everything we tried was delicious and filling. Cocktails were also good and we enjoyed the comfy bean bags looking out to sea most evenings. Pool area is so calm and quiet, we didn't have a problem getting sun beds each day at all and we got there any time from 9-10am. They supply a button when you need to order drinks which is a great system. We used our free 15 minute massage alongside a 30 minute so had 45 minutes in total and it's one of the best I've had on holiday, so thank you to the spa team. All of the staff are super friendly and really smiley, thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

Lovely hotel and grounds. Well maintenances and clean/modern Towels changed and room made daily. We stayed in room 311, private but the tree outside the bathroom window sent loads of bugs into the room and the fridge was really loud and you can’t switch it off. Would be better to have it concealed behind a cupboard door?? Take your own hairdryer as this particular one was rubbish. Was merely just a hose with not a lot of power Lots of choice at buffet breakfast and dinner, had theme nights too. No rush for sun loungers though I think this is more this time of year not sure about summer months. All staff were polite and efficient however, I feel they don’t connect well on a more personal level. It was very robotic if that makes sense. Just felt a bit impersonal. Some people might like that of course. I didn’t know any of their names. Nothing in terms of entertainment (again maybe that’s it October) I feel I’d they had an actual pool bar rather than using the a la carte restaurant facilities just so there was somewhere to sit on an evening . Not much to do nearby unfortunately but you will get some entertainment in the central bar which is about 10 mins walk. We spent 4/7 nights in there. You can get a public service bus into Heraklion takes about 20mins just us the street for 2€ pp each way. The holiday was peaceful though and the hotel lovely. We had a great time.

What a lovely welcome we received on arrival. Was given a glass of fizz as we checked in. We stayed in room 219, which was in a great location by the pool. Extremely clean and comfortable room. Shower great too. We can’t speak highly enough of all members of staff. Always so friendly and helpful, and always smiling. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was great with a wide choice. Certainly something for everyone. Great banter with the manager re my bright and colourful shirts! We enjoyed our stay so much, that after being home for just two days, we have booked to go again in October of next year! Can’t wait. Thanks all and see you next year.
