The Sun House

This is truly one of the best small hotels we have ever stayed in. Just a lovely experience from start to finish. The location is fantastic, the house and gardens are beautiful and our room (the gallean) stunning. But the peaceful atmosphere and charming buildings and gardens only work so well because of the staff, each of whom are absolutely delightful. Great little bar and restaurant too, icing on the cake!

Our 3 night stay was both relaxing and enjoyable. We love this type of small boutique hotel in a historic house and the new owners have done both a superb restoration job and put an experienced hotel manager in place. All of this makes a huge difference so ignore older, negative reviews. We stayed in the Dumas room which has a balcony to enjoy the morning birds and monkeys. Honestly, with a Merlin app, a cup of Dilmah tea and binoculars you can nature watch here in comfort and style. We saw that our options for Galle were modern, soulless places, the central hotels in former industrial buildings or walauwas some distance outside of Galle. Here you have the best of both worlds : a 10 minute walk or 500 LKR tuk into Galle Fort plus gardens, nature, character and a tranquil swimming pool. A big shout out for Chef Yasotharon's Arrack tasting Menu. It was the best meal of our 18 day trip and so special. We had several courses of delicious local dishes paired with arrack or cocktails of arrack and each explained beautifully. The food is to die for. There are great options for dinner in Galle but I can see why many guests in recent reviews chose to eat and drink in house. It was lovely to meet owner Sunny and a huge congratulations to all the team at Sun House, Galle. A top choice for this area. from Una and David.

The Sun House is one of the best places we have ever stayed. It is an absolutely stunning colonial house that has recently been beautifully renovated. Our room was great. We were travelling with 2 small children and there was plenty of space for us all. The food was great so we ended up eating most of our meals at the Sun House rather than going out. The staff were very helpful and friendly. This hotel is excellent.

The Sun house is a truely authentic Sri Lankan Experience, the rooms were thoughtfully appointed in a traditional artisan manner. We were luckly enough to be staying in a suite with a beautiful jungle view complete with a family of jovial monkeys happily going about their day for our enjoyment from our open room balcony. After a refreshing swim in the boutique pool we enjoyed a delicious, fresh and exotic breakfast including juice tonics and first class coffee to kick start the day. Dinner includes many traditional options and the freshest seafood, followed by delicious cocktails and desserts to complete a full days travel. The old building has been beautifully restored to its former glory as the manor of a late spice merchant at the turn of the century. Michael and our hosts were more than accomodating even taking the time to place us in a romantic couples villa at a respectable distance from the children! We loved our stay !

The Sun House really is a special place! So carefully renovated and restored, so comfortable. Just a short walk away from Galle Fort, I apprecciated being close but away, in the tranquillity of this home. All the people in the team are absolutely special too, genuinely caring for the guest, I stayed 5 nights so I really experienced that throughout. And the food is outstanding, the whole time, I can't thank the Chef and his team enough. I was able to work and relax in the environment, very difficult to leave, I will return :-)

This is a funky hotel, with lots of quirks. Tropical feel and very close to Galle fort. Great food, drinks and service. The rooms are all unique, spacious and comfortable. Well worth a visit. You can also head here to experience the hotel restaurant and bar
