The host of the hotel, a middle aged Japanese man, was very rude to my family and I during check-in. He couldn't find my booking at first because of a spacing error in my name, and only said to me, "No booking", over and over again. My whole family, including my elderly parents, were with me, and you could just imagine our shock after a long day of travel. We had booked two rooms for two nights, all paid in full. I explained to him that the payment already went through to the hotel, and I had the confirmation from Trips.com on my phone. All he would say to me was "No booking, no, no booking." Only when I was about to call Trips.com did the Japanese man look at my name again and do a search on his list. Given the small-medium size of the ryokan this was not a tough job to do to search through the booking names, and the only reason he couldn't find my name at first was a minor spacing error. When he did find my booking, he did not even apologize. His attitude was completely rude and unacceptable. I would not recommend booking this hotel if you don't speak Japanese as the Japanese staff were quite impatient and fast to hang up on the phone if they couldn't understand English well.
The dinners served were also disappointing. The raw portion of the meals served, such as the sashimi and the beef that we were to grill ourselves, were not fresh, possibly because they've been sitting out on the table for who knows how long, even though we were punctual to our dinner time. The only redeeming factor of the meal was the nice Japanese woman who served us and the rice.
The only reason I booked this hotel was because we planned the trip quite late and it was the only hotel available then with tatami and onsen. However, next time, I would rather not come to Fuji Mountain instead of having to stay at this ryokan again.
