New Wilmington Hotel

AVOID AVOID AVOID Thought I had booked a relaxing well deserved break for myself and my partner this weekend , Sat 4th May to Monday 6th May 29 . I booked it on 24th April 2024, at the time of our booking there were no details about the hotel undergoing renovations and scaffolding on the outside front wall . The evening before arrival the hotel emailed me to inform me of the ongoing renovations. We arrived on Sat at 2pm..check in time , I had booked a superior ensuite double room.To be told room was not ready .... so we went away and returned a little later. we were given the key to a room on the 3rd floor, by the way the lift does not go all the way up to the 3rd floor floor! So we had a flight of stairs to climb. We got into the room to find it far from superior . it was dusty and cramped, there were no clean cups or glasses , or coffee making machine that was stated in the itinerary at time of booking , the USB sockets did not work, a damp patch on the wall had been badly painted over, a broken telephone socket exposing wires was visible on the wall , the furniture was chipped and dirty and no TV remote control . There was also only one bath towel in the room. Were we supposed to share the towel between us ? We stayed on the Saturday night , breakfast on Sunday was cold, tasteless and we waited over 45 minutes for a pot of tea to arrive. Though before we started breakfast we asked for a pot of tea and it never appeared until we had consumed our so called cooked breakfast. It was shocking . The rest of the hotel is dirty...yes there are renovations going on, a fire door was blocked with broken furniture. hence we left after just one night. the photos that this hotel show on their website are totally inaccurate! Upon complaining they accepted all our fault finding within the hotel and offered us an apology and a refund . Avoid this hotel , it is not what is stated on brochures or website. The carpet entrance is covered in paint stains and the lift is small and extremely grubby .

Have just had our booking cancelled by WhatsApp message 4 days before we are due to stay. Having read the previous review from April it’s clear the hotel was aware months ago that they had no intention of honouring our booking and waited until the last minute so they could offer their sister hotel when other options would be few and far between during the busy Eastbourne Tennis week. We’ve booked elsewhere!

Hotel just cancelled our family booking for mid-April, no excuse, just said ‘we are now closed’… the truth it seems is less palatable.. they have cancelled all existing & future bookings so they can jump on the asylum cash-cow, meaning anyone who had holiday plans will either need to find somewhere else to stay, likely at double the rate now it’s so late to start looking, or stay home. Got no problem with people seeking a new life here, but surely hotels have a duty to honour bookings, not kick everyone else out in favour of quick (and no doubt very lucrative) money? Will never stay here again after this fiasco.

Back in August my friend Neil and I walked all round Eastbourne looking for a reasonably priced hotel for our spiritual weekend seminar planned for 7 to 10 October. We walked into the New Wilmington Hotel and Tugba was so helpful, accommodating our needs so that our weekend could go ahead. I have just got home after an amazing weekend stay and I can’t thank Tugba and her team enough for the wonderful hospitality we received. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is cooked fresh and the poached eggs are fantastic. We also had included in our 3 night package a delicious 3 course evening meal. I had delicious homemade soup and fresh fish every night, meat and vegetarian options are also included in the menu. Dogs are very welcome at the hotel which was wonderful as one of my colleagues has a small dog so he didn’t have to get a dog sitter. We have booked again for next year as it felt like home from home. Thank you again for looking after us so well.

Nothing was too much trouble for the new Owner/Manager, room, food and entertainment great. Lots of choice for evening meal. Working lift and help with moving the luggage. Hotel in a good position near the tourist information, theaters and art gallery.

We’ve just got home from a very enjoyable, excellent value, two night stay at the New Wilmington. It doesn’t pretend to be a rival to the Savoy, but nonetheless deserves its Five Star Review here. Our (refurbished??) room, and public areas were very comfortable and carefully clean, neat and tidy. The management and staff were always attentive and friendly. If the biggest fault was that the shower perhaps lacked some power, then you know that the rest of it was pretty damn good. The Full English Breakfast was lovely, and got the days off to flying starts. Thank you.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night on Sunday 28th August 2022. We had spent the day in Brighton & wanted to explore Eastbourne, too. We were very impressed with the interior of the hotel in general - nicely decorated & set out. We were very happy with our room - we had a family one with a double bed in it & 2 singles. We were a party of 2 adults & 2 teenagers. The beds were very comfortable & the room was very clean. The shower could have been considerably more powerful, but that's the only negative comment, really. Plenty of choice for breakfast & the room we ate in was really nice. Staff were very pleasant. I did, however, order a vegetarian full English breakfast for myself & would have liked veggie sausages &/or bacon, really, but this was not available, which was a shame. I was given an extra hash brown instead! Would stay again.

I stayed at the hotel with my friend for the airshow. Great location with just a short walk to the beach. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Room was lovely,nice clean bedding,shower was great! *i had originally booked to stay in The Glastonbury Hotel but we were moved to The New Wilmington..i’m so glad about that!*

We we're visiting Eastbourne to see Beautiful ( carole king musical). Friendly welcome and easy parking with a hotel guest pass for £2. Room was a bit dated but nothing wrong with it. Quiet location and we slept well. Breakfast was included and was traditional and good quality ingredients. We would happily return.
