Overall great experience. Great location and amenities. Spotlessly clean. Great breakfast options. Friendly staff. A little bit of air con noise and bed is a bit on the firm side but tolerable. We stayed in a family room and it would be great to have a children’s stepping stool for washing hands etc. Also make sure you bring enough clothes. Laundry service is very expensive and takes 2 days on average.

It was overall a great stay. The lobby is cozy, fragrant and dimly lit with soft yellow lighting. The room is not very big but there was enough space to move around comfortably. Love the shower with instant heating and water temperature digitally displayed and the hairdryer has good wind strength. The toilet seat is electronically kept warm and wash basin tap comes with hot water, which really made a difference during cold weather. Breakfast was simple but delicious, with variety enough for a nutritious start to the day. The noodles made by the robot was unexpectedly quite tasty. The complimentary late night porridge was also a warm touch to end the day for guests. There are books spread out throughout the public spaces for guests to borrow (all Chinese books though). The location is rather convenient, about 10-15min walk to 2 metro stations, Jing An Temple Station and Nanjing West Rd station, lots of eateries nearby and a few shopping malls like Kerry Centre are also within walking distance, plus the beautiful Jing An Temple of course. Special thanks to the kind staff named Weekend (Zhou Mo) who extended complimentary late check out till 4pm in view of my late flight.

I have stayed in multiple hotels in SH. Including The Conrad, Renaissance, Pudong Intercontinental and Maxx. Maxx is definitely a hotel with Character, Style, and Color. unlike your everyday & everywhere the same ‘typical 5* hotel’ it has many ‘caring’ features for a truly delightful experience. the flowery scent of the lobby area and the service coffee machine and tomatoes in the lobby, are just some of the small but very delicate warmth that I felt while staying at Maxx. the wooden floor in the room was very good too, especially with kids because carpet floors, how ever much you clean, it does have that raggedy smell with time. but not at maxx. The view? second to none obviously. the location? prime - right in front of the ferry to pudong. and 5-10mins from yuyuan gardens. Especially, the staff. I have had my share of rather unfriendly staff in China. But all of maxx’s staff were sooooo friendly and warm and kind. the door men (both Chinese and western person) - they helped us every time we went up and down the entrance stairs with our pram with the baby, and the check in staff were so caring too. And i see a lot of people complaining about the fact that the staff are not fluent in English. Bro, turn on your google translate man. you are half way across the Earth in China, and no where does it say anywhere ‘our staff are fluent in English’ - ‘when in Rome…’ - But to be fair, Maxx had multiple lady staff who were sufficient in English to my surprise, and she was really nice and helpful. (please give her a raise lol). Anyway I will definitely stay here again w/o even looking at other hotels in SH for sure. 10/10.

It was a great experience in there, Just if there could be a bit more English present ”(such as the Breakfast Menu) it would be more International traveler friendly. The service was spot on.

Hotel is located not too far away from the Hongqiao airport but not near town center. Room was very clean and pillows and bed comfortable. The hotel provides night time snack and free tea for customers. They’re also helpful to non Chinese speaking customers. I’ve a wonderful experience staying at the hotel.

The hotel is a pleasant place to stay, with its nice architecture and design. However, the lighting in the rooms could be improved as it is not sufficient. Despite this, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, which makes up for some of the shortcomings. It's a pity that there is no gym available, but the hotel does offer yoga classes, which is a good alternative for those looking to stay active during their stay. Unfortunately, coffee, tea, and other beverages are not readily available in the vicinity of the hotel, which might be a slight inconvenience for guests who prefer to have these options closer at hand.

Nothing much nearby. Not for shopping trip. Room is clean and big, strong aircon, but bed quality can be improved. Noticed almost all the appliances in the hotel and toilet amenities are local brand. Good to create local brand awareness and so far everything works well except for their coffee machine in the cafe. Breakfast spread is acceptable but cannot compare to international branded hotels. Coffee is HORRIBLE, please change your coffee machine.. cooked food is cold and not properly covered and saw flies around the food. If you do not have local chinese phone, u cannot connect to their wifi. Television shows all local channels. Price point is almost the same as some international brand names but overall gives off a feeling that they are actually more inclined towards local chinese customers. Staff attitude is excellent but a little too pushy to keep asking you for a 5 star rating review online. Overall still a pleasant stay. Thanks.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast had few choices. My issue with the hotel is that of the two rooms that I booked,I had to wait until 6:30pm,for one of my rooms. The staff were very friendly,but having to wait that long is crazy

I recently stayed at the Crystal Hotel Shanghai, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in every way. The hotel was impeccably clean and well-managed, making my stay extremely comfortable from start to finish. The staff was exceptionally helpful and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. The highlight of my stay was the innovative touch of having a robot deliver my order right to my door. It added a unique and futuristic experience to the already impressive service. I was genuinely delighted by this feature, which made my stay memorable.

I was able to experience what a luxury hotel is ♥️ It was a great place to welcome the new year of 2025. I could use an entire 3-story house in the style of old Shanghai, and it felt like I was in a village. Everything was perfect from the moment of check-in to check-out. Right after check-in, they accompanied me and gave me detailed and kind guidance from the way to the 1st to 3rd floor (+ rooftop). The staff were all professional and had affection and pride for Capella, which was nice. They thoughtfully recommended restaurants nearby because it was New Year's Day on January 1st, and they said they would help me with everything I needed. The room condition was also the best, and the welcome food, cake, was very delicious. It was secretly convenient that there were two bathrooms. I could control the sunlight with curtains on the windows, and the traditional Shanghai candy, traditional comics, and wooden bookshelf(?) that they gave me as a souvenir were impressive. The first floor door and small terrace(?) were also so beautiful and nice. I also liked that the living room and bedroom were on completely different floors. Usually, other hotels clean the room when you stay for more than 2 nights, but they cleaned the room meticulously every time you left. At first, I didn't think they would clean the room because it was only for 1 night, so I was a little surprised, but when I asked, they said they clean it meticulously every time you leave. The mother-of-pearl minibar was really nice. The library was also nice, and the chocolate was delicious! I was also able to eat breakfast at Pierre Gagnaire, and I was glad to have enjoyed Pierre Gagnaire in Korea. However, since I ordered a Chinese menu at a French restaurant, the breakfast wasn't that great! Hahaha Next time, I think it would be better to choose a French menu or just eat dinner. They even gave me a gift when I checked out, and even called a taxi for me. Although it was only for a day, I felt like a Chinese princess (?) I want to go on my next trip and visit other Capellas.
