Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa

"We had booked a two-week stay in a standard one-room apartment and were assigned room 1152. We got almost no sleep the first two nights due to noise from a pool pump. After complaining repeatedly to both the hotel and Apollo—neither of whom was particularly accommodating or responsive to our grievance—we were offered what they claimed was the only available room. They couldn't provide an apartment, only a double room (1253) located below street level, just five meters from the sidewalk on the main road in Platanias. This room could best be described as a basement unit; it had small windows and a terrace exposed to so much traffic and street noise that one had absolutely no desire to spend time there. At check-in, you are required to pay a tourist tax equivalent to that of a 5-star hotel. The hotel is well-situated near the beach. Yes, there are fitness and spa/wellness facilities, and undoubtedly some nice rooms as well. However, many rooms clearly reflect a priority on maximizing space utilization; consequently, there are numerous units—tucked under staircases or into awkward corners—that are likely worse than what you would find in a 2-star hotel."

"Absolutely top-notch staff service! The dining was also superb, and the views were incredibly stunning. The only issue was that the elevator in the lobby frequently malfunctioned, getting stuck and not opening its doors unless someone pressed the button from the outside. As for hardware, the power outlets on the walls in the room were a bit loose. Other hardware was fine."

"Our second visit to Aloe hotel and it is still amazing! We received a very kind room upgrade as returning guests to a sea view split level room which was extremely kind of the management. The attention to detail at this hotels is 5 star and the staff go out of their way to make your stay special and as comfortable as possible. We love all the restaurants nearby and this time hired a car and visited places in the area. We will definitely be back and will stay at Aloe - thank you again to the whole Aloe team! 5 star all the way."

"We had never been in a "boutique hotel" but after the experience of Athens and this one, I will summarize it, very nice rooms but many stairs and few elevators and it must be a trend since Chania was full of "Boutique Hotels" with these characteristics. Very central, in the old town, lovely staff who help you with your suitcases up the stairs. Nice and comfortable room with views of the port. Restaurant below the hotel where they serve you breakfast, (see another opinion). It is not cheap. If you are young and in good physical shape it is highly recommended"

"Mike & Inka are great hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them and they make you feel like at home. The appartements are clean, brekfast is great and plenty of, pool area is nice and clean. If you have a car, there's enough parking space. The place is a few minutes from the coast and a short drive from Chania. Amazing and quiet place, just perfect. If you are a type who explores the island and needs a homey and relaxing place to stay, the location couldn't be better. Greatlly recommend! 👌"

"We booked a week in the Katerina in June 24 and were given a studio in the adjoining rooms, the Leonardis on arrival. There was only a hand held shower there, the hob was rusty and no toiletries apart from hand wash. Very disappointing! Needs lots of TLC and modernising. Perhaps the Katerina is better but we didn’t get a room there!"
