Travelodge Cambridge Orchard Park ★★★
"Disappointing. Unfortunately, this was not a great experience and, having stayed at Travelodge previously because they are convenient when travelling with our dog, I would not stay at this particular hotel again. The one real positive was the lovely receptionist, Hafsan, who welcomed us when we arrived. She was extremely helpful, polite and friendly and gave off a lovely vibe. There was also another lady on reception the following morning who was helpful when I spoke to her later and gave me Hafsan’s name. We had a family room and we had one small fan, but it really didn’t make any difference. None of the four of us slept properly, and we also had our dog with us who was clearly struggling with the heat. The double bed was comfortable, but the two single beds were not particularly comfortable. It may have been partly due to the extreme heat, as none of us had much sleep at all. Breakfast was, quite frankly, a shambles. The layout doesn’t make sense to me. The food and self service area is at the back, meaning people have to walk through the seating area where others are eating to get to it. There was a constant flow of people walking backwards and forwards through the tables, which made the whole experience quite chaotic. There were also long waits for food to be replenished. Even after a member of staff was told that things needed filling up, we were still waiting for quite some time. At one point there was no milk, and I also heard another guest mention that some of the advertised fruit wasn’t available. There seemed to be several people who were unhappy with the breakfast service. When I spoke to a couple of members of staff afterwards about the breakfast, I didn’t find them particularly welcoming or helpful. They looked miserable, which unfortunately added to the overall experience. I really think the layout could be improved. It would make much more sense to have the kitchen/self service area first, so guests can collect their food and then move through to the seating area, rather than having to walk through people who are already eating. I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Cambridge a few nights later and their layout worked exactly this way, with the food area first and the seating afterwards, and it made much more sense. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. The helpfulness of Hafsan was our highlught, but unfortunately that couldn’t make up for the problems with the rooms, the heat, lack of sleep and the breakfast experience. I’ve stayed in Travelodge hotels before and have generally found them convenient, particularly when travelling with a dog, but this particular stay was not a good experience and I would not stay here again."

"Stayed as family lived nearby in Melbourne (15min drive away) 26-29th £105 excellent price. Not the greatest looking location but car park has plenty of space and is secure, its free too. Staff are fantastic, friendly and lovely to deal with. We had room 128, a double. it was spacious, clean and quiet. looked onto land at the back away from the road so was very quiet. The windows open which is a big plus for me, rooms in Travel Lodge type paces can get overly warm. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom is clean and a good size, powerful shower and smallish bath. Excellent value for money. Absolutely nothing to complain about."

"The restaurant service was friendly, but the food was just so-so. The hotel itself is quite new, and the room was very clean, with housekeeping tidying up daily (without any 'save energy' requests). The room window was small and couldn't be opened. There's no kitchen, washing machine, or bathtub. The wardrobe is small, and the fridge didn't seem to cool very well. The location is super convenient, just a 5-minute walk from the train station, and the bus stop is only 3 minutes away. There's a supermarket and a cafe right downstairs. It's a 20-minute walk to the city center, or a 4-minute Uber ride. There aren't any other restaurants nearby, so you'll definitely need to head into the city center for dining options!"

"The staff absolutely brilliant! The hotel full of characters, the design and layout are fantastic. Certainly I love it. The room I had is at the top floor ( kind of loft ) as I booked only for one person myself. It’s gorgeous when the front and back windows open, the breeze was amazing especially when the temperature was 38 degree in a no air conditioning hotel. One view through the window is River Cam and Jesus Green. Also steps away from my daughter’s college accommodation. It’s the reason why I chose to stay here. Only thing is that no lift and no air conditioning for the whole of hotel, if you come here for summer, better to check weather first if you can bare the heat , and whether you are heavy travellers, I mean if you need lift up down the room with your luggages or personal health conditions. I m not heavy traveller myself this time, but my daughter was moving her uni stuff to a new accommodation, we had to move some of her stuff into the hotel room first , then later moving into her new accommodation after certain checking in time by college policy, so we were very struggling to carry the large suitcases up and down . Saying this, we d like to thank the staff from reception who offered to carry two large suitcases up to my room at the top floor when the temperature was 38 degree. As I was kind of in a shock about no air conditioning in a hotel for such high temperature and forgot to leave him a tip. I d love to do so if I visit again and see him. Anyway thanks the hotel and the staff very much for having me there few days. A very special thanks to the guy at the reception who helped us to get our two large luggages to my room. You are absolutely an amazing example to present your hotel. The way you treating your customers is very professional, thoughtful, kind and appreciated. Thank you."

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff for such a wonderful stay for my son’s birthday. We stayed from the 3rd to the 4th of May, and they decorated the room so beautifully, it really made him feel so special!!.... The customer service was second to none. From bringing extra pillows to helping me sort the air conditioning, nothing was too much trouble. The food, as always, was beautiful!! and the sticky toffee pudding is incredible! It was also so kind of them to give my son a takeaway box for his leftover pizza (the pizzas are massive), and to bring extra yoghurt for my baby. Those little touches really meant a lot. I honestly can’t fault this Travelodge. Even if there are ever any minor issues, they’re always sorted so quickly. I’ve been coming for years now and absolutely love bringing different members of my family along to experience it too. Thank you again for everything we’ll definitely be back soon!! 5*"

"We went to the Red Lion purely because it suited regarding location. We were actually attending a funeral with family from that area! We were VERY pleasantly surprised by the room. It was spacious and had everything we needed. The bathroom was huge! It was perfect for us. We only stayed one night but, for someone who wanted to explore the area, it is a great place to stay. It was also very good value for money."

"The hotel is very close to the Cathedral. Although it's not in the absolute heart of Cambridge, it's not too far from anywhere, which makes it very convenient. The breakfast is delicious, and you can order à la carte. The à la carte menu is so good it barely tastes like British food! Another great feature of the hotel is that they have a few vintage Bentleys, which they offer for a complimentary one-hour tour."
