Despite being substantially renovated in 2016 this feels very much like a traditional hotel - and none the worse for that. Very good:- Fair sized room with large bathroom that had a walk-in shower and grab rails for those of us whose balance is not what it was; and for once a shaver point and light that were correctly positioned in relation to one another. Pleasant salon where we could sit and read our books when we did not want to go out in the rain. Location - across the road from the SNCF station. Less than 10 minute walk to town centre. Good:- Above average hotel restaurant where we had a good dinner . Pleasant staff. Comfortable beds. Double curtains that kept out the light from the brightly-lit railway station. Average:- Buffet breakfast (that one has to book the night before "to save waste") Needs attention:- No handrail on short but tricky flight of stairs from reception to lift.

Nice old world atmosphere and convenient for train connection. Pleasant 15mn walk to lovely historic downtown Brive with multiple dining options. Given its 1907 origin, room and bathroom a bit small and outdated and not soundproof. Pleasant breakfast dining room with terrace

We hosted a welcome dinner for 35 people traveling from the United States to Brive for a family wedding. The location was perfect and the dining staff was amazing to work with! The dinner was lovely and the table setting was beautiful. They arranged a cocktail hour for us immediately prior to the dinner on a last minute notice in their lovely outdoor space and it was delightful. I highly recommend this hotel for your gatherings!

My family and I stayed in this hotel early August for one night in two classic suites. Unfortunately the hotel turned the air-conditioning off at 1am for a number of hours, whilst the temperature was 38c in Brive. The temperatures in the rooms were unbearable and it was not possible to sleep. The duty night manager visited our room to investigate the air conditioning issue and confirmed it had been turned off, however the hotel manager disputed the problem existed in the morning when we checked out. The front desk staff were bureaucratic (as mentioned in previous reviews) and rude, and basically accused us of lying about the air-conditioning problem (however I have video evidence which has been submitted to the agent I made the booking with to request a refund). Hotel location is good and the rooms decor is basic but clean, however I strongly recommend that you stay elsewhere - turning the air-conditioning off at night for cost cutting reasons in extreme heat is irresponsible. If you do decide to stay here I suggest you pay attention to the air-conditioning at night to make sure it does not get turned off, or bring a fan with you!

Clean hotel, great service to check-in early and help find a restaurant on a Sunday after Christmas.
Bed was too soft, no tv remote nor possibility to use tv, heat was too low. (22 degrees maximum from a small radiator)
Great location across from train station and short walk to center of town.

The hotel has changed a great deal, rooms without art. Beds small and minimal pillows. Clean and staff friendly. Sound proofing not great between rooms and much noise outside at night. For the title of he hotel they need to live up to it ‘Grand’ Old lift amazing!
