Amazing
BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.
AamychowkwLove this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!
DDzerittoWe really enjoyed the experience of staying at the ryokan.
Friendly hostess, neat house. We were treated to tea and buns. The location is very convenient, near the train station.
There is a very beautiful pond with koi fish in the yard.
We enjoyed the experience of the public bath. There are 3 baths in the ryokan: 2 public and 1 indoor. I visited one public, the pool was outside, which created an additional atmosphere for this place.
We were a little puzzled by the early departure at 10 am, but the hostess kindly allowed us to leave our luggage with her for longer
NNiniIt was a very interesting experience. There was no private bathroom, but the location was very good. The hostel provided transportation to the station and to watch the wild monkeys soak in the hot springs. If you take the bus yourself, it is also 100 meters away from the bus station. It is in the core area of the hot spring street, but it is not very convenient to eat around it. After all, it is too remote. If you like to experience the traditional Japanese hot spring street, it is highly recommended to experience it once. Thanks to the owner and the staff for their friendly reception.
WWuyayizhiThe hotel's pick-up service at Yudanaka Station gave a very good first impression. Although the facilities are a bit old, the service is very warm, the room is very large, and there is a private hot spring. Every morning, the hotel also picks up guests to the Snow Monkey Park for free. However, there is a small flaw in the service I personally encountered. When I checked in, the hotel informed me that the return time from the Snow Monkey Park was 12 noon, just in time for the 12:30 bus back to Nagano, but in fact it became 12:30 the next day. I had to take the next bus back to Nagano. Because there were fewer buses, it was about an hour and a half late.
GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
EElinaNikIt was brilliant!
It is the same with pictures on this site.
They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life.
I had my own reserved table for breakfast.
❗❗❗The hotel has its own bus with driver, which took me to the Snow Monkey Park and to the station for free!
Actually staff was so polite! It is seems like you are someone important.
Actually the only one minus that you can't go to all 9 Shibu Onsen's baths, but just to 9th bath only. But the hotel has its own bath even open-air.
It was really nice and comfortable accommodation.
LLIThe hotel is old and the food is of average quality. For skiers, the traffic is not particularly convenient, but it is better than the lotus pond or the ichinose. . However, the hotel service is very good, especially the front desk manager Zen, very warm, and English is very good, it is called the hotel's smashing.
GGuest UserThe hotel is great, very clean, unlike some old spa hotels in Japan, the rooms are spacious and bright, there is a dungeon common area, for a group of friends to talk and drink, the best thing is that the hotel has a washer and dryer, a restaurant, The waiter was very gifted, and the hotel is next to the ski resort, you can not have to take a car to the ski resort, very convenient, and can always return to the hotel halfway to rest, do not have to wait for the shuttle, great!
GGuest UserIt's close to Yudanaka Station. If you go about 200 meters from the hotel, there is a bus stop on the Yudanaka side.
Easy transportation to Shigagogen Ski Resort and Snow Monkey
There is a convenience store near 100 meters, and there are not many doors in the surrounding shops, so there is nothing to see
But there's plenty of hot springs in the hotel, and there's an amusement room.
There's a massage machine, so you can have fun inside.
The food is buffet, but I'm so delicious at dinner.
I can't forget that you can eat beer and sake in unlimited wine for dinner !! 👍
Most of them are family-oriented and friends, so there are many elderly people.
Ski resort and hot springs together
Recommended here to enjoy !!!
The staff were friendly and nice 👍
