Ulasan Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in early June and were very happy with our stay. The hotel has genuine five star luxury and we were delighted with our experience. The hotel design is beautiful and it is located on a hillside surrounded by the German Alps, resulting in stunning views from the breakfast room when the clouds cleared. For those who travel by car just note that the road up from Berchtesgaden is quite steep with gradients of over 20% which can make for a nervous drive up. The staff were very welcoming and seemed to appreciate our efforts at speaking German, but had good English to complete the conversation. In terms of food, the breakfast buffet was of very high quality. We didn't have dinner in the hotel in the evenings so can't comment on that aspect. We did find the price of casual food in the bar very high (over €30 for a club sandwich). We have stayed in comparable hotels in Germany before that had a reasonably priced casual food option but for some reason this wasn't the case in the Kempinski. Parking was not a problem, and although we opted for surface parking, the valet parked our car in the garage at no extra cost as the garage was not full. We enjoyed the hotel surroundings very much, with nice trails to walk or run. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from Dokumentation Obersalzberg which was well worth a visit and highlighted the historical significance of the Obersalzberg area during WW2. The spa area was excellent, and the heated outdoor pool was a nice place to spend time swimming or enjoying the sun with great views or the Eagle's Nest and the surrounding mountains. We enjoyed a drink in the bar most evenings, which featured a log fire as a centrepiece. Drinks were priced at a level that you would expect for this quality of hotel. Our room faced the inner courtyard (but still had great mountain views) and had a lovely balcony on which we spent a lot of time. Just note that 'mountain' facing rooms on the external face of both wings didn't seem to have balconies. One of the highlights of our visit was taking the Jennerbahn cable car to the top station, enjoying stunning views of Konigsee and hiking back down to the middle station. A special word of thanks to the girl on reception who managed to find an alternative room for us when we had a technical issue with the air conditioning in our originally assigned room. This was managed quickly and professionally and we regret that we didn't note her name to thank her personally in this review. The Hotel Manager also made a point of spending time in the lobby area and greeted us warmly every time we passed by. In conclusion, we found the hotel to be an excellent property, in a stunning location and would be delighted to return.
