"Very nice hotel, perfect for truly unwinding. Unfortunately, the beach isn't suitable for swimming as it's full of stones and coral. The food is very good and the rooms are huge. The service is pretty mediocre, though. Even though we were asked via WhatsApp the day before about our arrival time and bed preference, neither was taken into account. We had to wait an hour even though check-in was officially from 2 PM. Instead of a shared bed, we got two single beds. They really could have saved themselves the trouble of asking. Otherwise, everything else was great."

" In Batticaloa, it appears that hotel choices are somewhat limited. I found that The East Lagoon Hotel to be adequate for a few days’ stay. While the room and washroom were clean, the balcony area was a mess. The view from the room was quite nice but the balcony was too narrow and the walls too high to sit and enjoy it. Regardless, sitting down on the balcony was out of the question. I could overlook the cheap plastic chairs, but the fact that they were dirty was disappointing. On a positive note, the staff, particularly the manager, were friendly and helpful. However, we often had to track down a server whenever we visited the bar. The breakfast served was a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast, though it lacked a Western option. I must mention that I was under the impression that the checkout time was 12 pm, as indicated on ***********, and I'm unsure why we had to rush out at 11 am. "

"After staying in so many wonderful places, we were a bit disappointed with this hotel. Some rooms have no – absolutely no – ‘sea view’, even though they’re advertised as such. ‘Bush view’ would be a more accurate and fairer description. The rooms are also very awkwardly laid out; anyone walking to the beach can look straight into them. So you just have to draw the curtains, and that’s the end of the ‘sea view’. This only applies to the ground-floor rooms. There’s also a first floor – try to get a room there. We were able to swap from the rooms at the very back to those at the front, which was a significant improvement. The rooms are very basic and the whole complex is showing its age a bit. The staff are really lovely – attentive and always friendly. The complex and the rooms are very clean. The food is average. Overpriced by Sri Lankan standards. However, there are great alternatives outside the hotel. The beach is also absolutely brilliant and very clean, and I think that, despite the shortcomings described, the hotel is one of the best in the area. So, if the rooms were a bit more lovingly decorated, the ‘sea view’ actually offered a sea view, and the staff were looked after properly, then this would be a fantastic place to stay. Its not far off."

"The staff, the facilities, cleanliness, food, kids club and spa were incredible. I would like to thank everyone at the hotel and sorry I didn’t catch all the staff name. Special thanks to: The front desk, Chamara and his team for their warm welcoming and for ensuring our stay was perfect everyday. The restaurant, the food was incredible, I liked the buffet but also the à la carte food and options. The half board is really a great deal considering the quality of the food. And thanks to all the waiters as well. The pool boy Rukman and his colleague who helped us actively during the day around the pool and ensuring we had the spot we wanted and with a clean towel to start the day. The Spa, Nishanta who did really good massages. Note that the spa is really good and not pricey at all for a hotel of this category. The kids club, run by Ruchita who is always proposing to play and do activities with the kids. I have chosen this hotel for its kids club and I am definitely convinced it was the right choice. The housekeeping team who carried the luggage’s to and from the room, and ensured the rooms were clean multiple times a day, and that we didn’t miss anything. It was really a memorable stay at this hotel. Probably the best I had among all the 4/5* hotels I did so far."
