Excellent room, excellent location and atmosphere of the hotel. Staff however, too often, go according to the 'book', and find it hard to think and improvise on the spot. Don't burden the weary traveler with trivial nonsense. If the sun shines, finally after weeks of grey and rain, and a guest sees the patio with tables in the sun, and this guest wants to have tea in the sun outside in the patio, this has to be a possibility. Don't say, well it's not the season so it's closed, it doesn't make sense, you're a top hotel, not the vander Valk. Improvise, think on your feet, explain that he is welcome to sit there and that his tea will be brought out, but it might take a few minutes longer. This way the guest feels listened to and that the moon is even possible. The kitchen is incredible, the food is wonderful. Last evening I had dinner at the Jansz., two ladies working, were very kind, helpful and attentive, they understood the delicate balance between asking how things are going and leaving the guest alone. I want them to know i appreciate them. Please extend my gratitude to them. Also the Asian looking lady who worked during breakfast this morning, was excellent. Please let her know as well. Finally, the staff at the entrance - getting cabs etc. - are great. Some of the male staff are too - in Dutch, popy yoopy. I am your guest and not your friend. That's all, and that's enough. We stayed at Novotel Amsterdam City in standard twin rooms for a family holiday (6 of us), and overall it was a great experience. Mr. Oman at the reception was super friendly and gave us a warm welcome during check-in. He also helped make sure all our requests were met; connecting rooms, 2 single beds, same floor, and next to each other. Really appreciated that! The only downside was one male receptionist (Middle Eastern-looking) who didn’t seem very welcoming. He was quite passive and seemed unwilling when I asked for help with temporarily storing our luggage.

Hotelnya sendiri sangat bagus dan nyaman sekali untuk menginap. Sarapannya sangat beragam dan restorannya juga luas. Namun, masalah terbesarnya adalah peron stasiun kereta bawah tanah di seberang hotel ini ternyata ditutup selama liburan musim panas. Kabarnya sedang dalam perbaikan. Padahal, saya memilih hotel ini justru karena akses transportasinya yang mudah, tapi sekarang malah jadi sangat merepotkan. Sangat disayangkan.

Saya memesan kamar di lantai atas dengan pemandangan yang menakjubkan. Saya sangat menyukai kamarnya. Anda dapat dengan mudah melihat stasiun pusat Amsterdam dari dalam kamar. Sarapannya agak ramai. Secara keseluruhan, pengalaman menginap yang menyenangkan.

I arrived at like midnight but luckily there’s someone at the reception 24/7. The hotel is at an excellent location, it was ok to push my suitcase over from Amsterdam central station, I think it took 10minutes yet I was shocked to see the very steep staircase because I had a 26” 22kgs big suitcase with me, along with a 7 kgs hand card travel bag, 6kgs backpack. There’s absolute no way I’d be able to carry all that up stairs without tumbling down and getting injured before I could reach the reception desk. Thankfully, the male staff who work at the front desk were all nice and willing to help, ie 1st time for bringing all my baggage from the bottom of the steps at the entrance up to my room during which we encountered even more steep stairs to reach the room; 2nd time was when I had to check out, I left my suitcase outside the room and needed staff to help me bring it down to the reception storage; 3rd time was from reception down to the bottom at the entrance, otherwise I would not have able to stay at the hotel with all my bulky and heavy baggages. It’s an old hotel so soundproofing maybe a bit of a problem, like I could hear floor boards creaking but it’s bearable and I had a good sleep. I had bit of a hard time finding my room, it felt like a maze in a boat or an anthill, but staff showed me the way to my room. The view outside the window was wonderful, Van Gogh museum and rijksmuseum were within walking distances like under 40 minutes. It’d be even if they provided a water kettle, but I was happy that they actually have tv and air con! I’d stay here again, just that I better not bring a big suitcase next time. Selama 3 hari di Amsterdam, saya menginap di hotel ini. Sangat praktis. Meskipun kelihatannya harus menyeberang dengan feri untuk ke Stasiun Pusat, ferinya beroperasi 24 jam dan datang silih berganti, jadi tidak perlu menunggu terlalu lama. Satu-satunya kekurangan hotel ini adalah tidak adanya dapur yang bisa digunakan tamu. Malam pertama, saya tidak tahu dan membeli makanan siap saji di supermarket AH sebelah. Tapi hotel tidak menyediakan microwave, jadi terpaksa makan makanan dingin. Kulkas pun tidak ada. Membeli sarapan di AH setiap hari juga sangat praktis. Sepertinya setiap hari hotel menyediakan minuman gratis, tapi saya tidak pernah sempat menikmatinya, haha. Lain kali kalau menginap di sini lagi, pasti akan saya coba. Secara keseluruhan, hotel ini sangat direkomendasikan. Suasana hotelnya juga sangat nyaman. Ada seorang staf resepsionis (front desk) pria dari Prancis (kulit hitam) yang sangat baik dan ramah, serta mudah diajak bicara.
