"We stayed for 3 nights in this amazing place with a beautiful garden and an exceptional crew. The reception is staffed by Swiss professionals and you feel right at home. The rooms have all the amenities you need for a pleasant stay. Beds are comfortable and room have air conditioning. The garden with a koi pool and a extra clean swimming pool is outrageous beautiful. The Hydrangeas are in full bloom and every detail in top shape. Restaurants are very good and the service is professional. This is the Swiss style. Never intrusive or servile. A shuttle service can bring you in town and of course you can walk through pleasant neighborhoods too Golf is just around the corner and on the lake you can do a cruise to an island with a botanical garden. The Ticino is well organized with good roads and long tunnels through the mountains. Nearly everything can be reached by train If you are anyway in Switzerland do not miss its beautiful towns like Bern and Lucerne or Zürich. So much to see in this beautiful country. I have seen many old towns in Europe but the Swiss know how to keep them in shape and spotless clean. The fast food Joints do not stick out and the little shops just invite to stroll through town. Not to forget the terrific bakeries and cheese shops. Switzerland has also some very good wines , which they mostly drink themselves. So hop on the train and see gods country."

"Oustanding! We just spent 4 nights here and would've stayed longer if we had more time during our trip to Switzerland. A magical paradise is the best description for this 5 star destination. Top notch rooms, linens, service, etc. Multiple pools, spas, gym, boating access, and incredible views on Lago Maggiore. Walking distance to shopping and downtown Ascona. "On our way to Italy we stopped over in Switzerland and spent a night at the La Perla hotel in Ascona. For me it was a journey down memory lane as I had stayed there during family holidays some 40 years ago (gosh). La Perla is a very nice place to stay, the hotel is within walking distance from the lake and we enjoyed our time there a lot. The quality of the service is the same, if not better than 40 years ago."

"We stayed for three nights with a 50% discounted half board voucher, although I did book an upgraded room with balcony - room 202 - which had a partial lake view overlooking the beautiful gardens. There was a small sitting area inside as well, and the room was really spacious enough for us. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and when we came back to our room it had already been made up. It’s also a hotel that still has a turndown service whilst we were at dinner. All lovely details. To put it succinctly, we loved the hotel! Its location at the end of the pedestrian zone was ideal, the cleanliness and comfort were 5-star and the personnel, from reception to wait staff and housekeeping were all wonderful! In other words, I have nothing but superlatives to describe this lovely hotel. We very much enjoyed our dinners in the lakeside restaurant - the only negative comment I would make is that the portions of the main course were simply too big. Our lovely waiter suggested he bring us half portions for our last night, which was just perfect. Some of the rooms apparently have beautiful painted ceilings, and although ours didn’t, we did very much enjoy the sitting rooms and other public places. We’ve just had a terrible year of family grief so this little trip away (we live in the French part of Switzerland) was balm for our souls. I’d love to come back!"

"Right on the water with a great vibe, I stayed here just one nigh, but would have liked to stay. The location is unbeatable, 10 mins from the water. This is a boutique hotel in the truest sense. I got a warm welcome, the hotel had a nice modern and clean layout and my room had some nice individual touches. I was lodged at the top on the 4th floor and maybe the room was a touch small, but not complaints. There is a honesty bar, a large terrace and a spa with a pool. Can recommend."

"We booked 3 nights at this hotel and I was a bit apprehensive having read previous reviews but what a wonderful, positive surprise. We were picked up at the train station by the hotel courtesy service. Greeted by the reception staff and offered a welcome Prosecco or soft drink and snack. The room with large balcony overlooking the spectacular scenery was very nice indeed, including outdoor futniture. The room was spacious, extremely clean, modern, very comfortable bed, little bouquet of fresh flowers, selection of fresh fruits and sweets. A kettle was provided on request. Bathroom was large with all amenities. Breakfast was super with selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, muesli, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, salmon, eggs, pastries and more. We had dinner in the hotel two nights (because the first night was so good) and the choice as well as the food was excellent. Compliments to the chef and his team. The gardens are beautifully maintained with sun loungers dotted around as well as around the pool area also with magnificent view. There is a very pretty pergola with outdoor seating where you can enjoy food or drinks overlooking the pool and wonderful scenery beyond. I paid particular attention to the staff due to previous reviews and found them somewhat surly although helpful and professional. However, we did get a bright smiley good morning from a guy who hoovering the corrider which compensated nicely. Also the lady who greeted us at breakfast and dinner was very friendly and chatty (I think she is a member of the family who owns the hotel) which I think is a nice touch. The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk down to Ascona centre and lake, probably a 15 minutes steep walk back up which we enjoyed as a form of exercise. The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle service on request also to and from Locarno train station We have visited this hotel a few times over the years and it just gets better and better. Well done team Ascona! We are already looking forward to the next visit and highly recommend it. A few more smiles from the staff, a show of friendliness and it would be perfect."

"Superb rustic hotel, direct view of the lake, with a panoramic terrace and a small interior terrace, the room was spacious and very clean. Nothing to say about the absolutely charming and helpful staff. Lots of restaurants nearby, no need to use your car (hotel parking) and use of Ticino transport. Two small downsides are the swimming pool which is still a 10-minute walk away under the blazing sun! And it would be good to mention that from a certain time there is no more room service! We highly recommend it!"

At night the hotel has no receptionist, you have to collect your keys until late. Funny but useful system for the keys - you leave you big key and take small one with you. Same key opens the front door. Rooms are spacious enough, clean and fresh. Free wifi."

Gorgeous outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens, very spacious room with beautiful views. The food is amazing, and the fine dining experience at Ecco is a memory we will cherish! Hotel is just 5 minutes drive from Ascona and you actually can borrow a bike from hotel and get there in 10 minutes or so! Thank you again for having us, it was an experience to remember!"

"For the price you pay it really is not worth the money - the standards of the rooms are not sufficient compared to what you get elsewhere. We were part of a big group so had to stay at the hotel and there were not other luxury options really in that area so there was not much choice - but if they want to charge these prices, they do need to upgrade the rooms a bit and provide better amenities. Some of the balcony furniture was equivalent of what you'd find in a 3 or 4 star hotel. The breakfast was nice and the staff were too"

"We were for a WE in Ascona. The La Meridiana is located directly on the lake at the river promenade. So you can reach everything to foot in Ascona. To the bus stop it is a walk depending on Gangart 5-10 minutes. For arrival or departure you can drive through the pedestrian zone to the hotel. At departure on Sunday, increased attention and patience may require. The rooms were beautiful and sufficiently large. The most beautiful are, of course, those with sea view. The breakfast was good but not exceptional. Very cool is the SPA area in the cellar. For a hotel of this size in this location an absolute exception. I personally found it bad that the wonderful terrace remains quite unused. Probably there are reasons for it. We had served us out of the house refrigerator to drink some more at night there. However, the choice was small and I should have bought something in advance. But it was the right choice in principle and we can recommend the La Meridiana."
