The United States of Texas was originally part of Mexico, and before 1821 Texas was part of the Governorate of New Spain (the Spanish colony). After Mexico's independence, Texas became part of Mexico's Coahuila-Tejas state. Since the 1820s, a large influx of American immigrants has been in Texas.
