The hotel is in a great location for exploring the Windemere and Bowness area. The facilities were excellent we particularly enjoyed the power shower in the morning and after a long walk in the country, just what we needed to get us refreshed and ready to go again. The bed was also very comfortable meaning we got a solid nights sleep. The breakfast was fantastic, well cooked and plenty of it, the coffee was also very good. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble for them. This was our second stay at The Windermere Hotel and we requested the same room with the same fantastic view, which they were able to accommodate . We will definitely be back.

A decent hotel with very old furnishing. But what it lacked on it, it more than recovered on its location which is right in the city centre with just 2 min walk from station and excellent staff. The room’s thermostat was not working properly so when I raised this complaint to the reception they promptly provided me with another room heater. The polite and helpful staff enhanced the overall experience

My wife and I stayed at Burn How for 4 nights. Immediately we found the staff most welcoming and friendly. The pleasant atmosphere was maintained at breakfast throughout our stay. The spacious room- with everything you might need- was part of a block of chalets set romantically amongst some beautiful trees. The Macdonald Old England Hotel is well situated, being just a stones throw from the lakeside and the shops in Bowness. The staff are friendly and obliging and the service matches their attitude. The breakfasts are fine, although the staff can sometimes be a bit slow in replenishing the tureens. We did not use the Spa, so we cannot comment on that. Overall, we found the hotel to have all the facilities that we were lookling for and we would be happy to stay there again.

The hotel’s facilities are complete, clean and tidy, and the staff are friendly and lovely. Due to Ctrip, the room may have been wrongly booked. They adjusted the large room for us for free, and the stay was very satisfactory.

Transportation: It is within walking distance from the train station (if you have a lot of luggage, it is recommended to call a taxi in advance.) Next door to Carlisle Railway Station on one side and Costa Coffee on other side. Several stairs to get up with cases. Single bed was surprisingly comfortable and surprisingly cosy. Small bath and shower - lashings of hot water. Breakfast adequate - a bit of everything. Bacon was dried out by 7.30am but sausages were delicious. Solid fried eggs on offer. Mainly tinned fruit with apple and yoghurt. Ubiquitous coffee machine…. Instant is better .. but they are all doing it. Juice and fresh milk on offer. Small selection of cereals. My room was cheap - noisy outside… the car park had replacement coach services… but worst of the swearing and shouting stopped around 1.00am. Hotel was warm and dry. A small lift for one with luggage. Staff were very kind - left my luggage in a locked room while I went to get my hire car. At half the price of similar low-facilities hotels I was happy enough. Might do without breakfast in future and go to Costa.

The lamb, calf and fish seen in the lake area are all delicious. You can also see a rabbit family in the hotel garden. It is indeed the hometown of Peter Rabbit. It is also very convenient to go to the pier. You can take a ferry or rent a battery boat or a rowing boat. The battery boat we rented was because it was sunny that day. We came here by bus 599, and we were exhausted climbing the slope with our suitcases. The service is very good. The front desk was very enthusiastic after we arrived, and their butler Mike was very talkative. He introduced us to various facilities and had a pleasant chat with the baby. The scenery around the hotel is very beautiful, right by the lake. It takes three minutes to walk to Peter Rabbit World and 10 minutes to walk to the cruise ship terminal. It is highly recommended.

The room is on the third floor, there is no elevator, the stairs are very narrow, and it is a bit difficult to carry luggage. It's less than ten minutes' walk from the lake, much closer than the train station. There are small supermarkets and restaurants near the hotel, which is more convenient. I especially recommend this hotel, a old English villa, which is newly renovated and British style. It is very clean and full of toiletries. It is 3 minutes away from the town by car. The room can see part of the lake view and the surrounding environment. Very good, I especially like their afternoon tea, the tea set is very exquisite, and I look at it with great care! Part of the breakfast is buffet, and the main meal is à la carte, with a large portion and enough to eat! If you have children staying with you, you must tell the hotel in advance that the children need to charge a fee of £28.50/piece/night! This fee includes breakfast and extra bed. If it is not stated in advance, the fee will still be charged, but there will be no extra bed! Expresso capsule coffee is provided free of charge in the room, which is my favorite. Those who like coffee are very surprised!

Very basic-looking hotel : reception is someone sitting at the bar with a laptop! Yet very friendly and does it’s job. Room seems very basic but has everything you need - bed nothing impressive to look at but very comfortable! No view but good vértice blind system. Shower fantastic - bathroom basic but spotlessly clean. I decided the thing that makes a hotel look “cheap” is the flooring! Breakfast offered bacon, sausages, eggs and even boiled eggs - also tinned fruit and yoghurt. Machine coffee. I was happy with my stay. Staff happily looked after my cases while I went into town; all very friendly. Nearby restaurants and cinema …. Station 5 minutes walk. Very convenient.

We had one overnight stay while traveling South. Hotel was easy to find with use of Google maps. Plenty on site parking. Efficient check-in. Room was compact, but comfortable. Nice hot shower. Towels were provided. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which felt a bit more like a pub with football on TV and a pool table. Not everything on the menu was available to order; although salmon and burger were lovely and plentiful. The waiter was very helpful. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, as we brought our own. Hotel popular with white van drivers.

The staff were very friendly, room & beds were clean but a little sp**** & needing some renovation. The breakfast was lovely, plentiful & made to order, choice of cereal, toast, cooked breakfast, tea & coffee. The only downside was the boom booming of the music from the bar going on to the early hours.

The room was clean and hygienic. I found two socks left by previous guests in the room. The location is good. There is a supermarket next to it, which is convenient. There is also free parking. Other things are generally OK.
