Really have nothing bad to say about the hotel but lots to say about the restaurant, the Hidden Gem!
As there were no choices for restaurants nearby, most of us ended up at the in-house Restaurant, the Hidden Gem! We had to wait at least 20 minutes to be seated, then another 20-30 minutes before our order was taken. But must say, the beer that ,my husband ordered came very fast! Another long wait for the food to come. My husband ordered the Traditional Club, no problem there. I ordered the Seafood Platter and that is the worst food, I ever had! When I tried one of the breaded scallop which was a darker shade than usual, the scallop was rubbery! The shrimp was overcooked too but at least that was eatable. The beer battered haddock was uneatable, the end part it was so hard , I could not cut into it, so I tried the middle and the batter and fish was uncooked, batter was soggy and fish had an unpleasant smell. I tried to catch the attention of the waiter but after 10 minutes of no success, I went up to the bar where he was and asked him to come to the table. Showed him the food, the fish in particular and he agreed with me that it was not good. He took the plate of food in and came out a few minutes later to say that the chef insisted that the food was edible! I wished I had taken a picture of it. He offered to cook me another plate but at this point, I have lost my appetite! Or he was going to offer me 50% of the cost of the meal. We did not agree and the waiter called the Manager. When she came, she was the most unpleasant and hostile person, insisted that we either pay 50% of the meal, since I had eaten half of the salad and the one scallop and shrimp! Otherwise she was going to have us kicked out of the hotel! As it was already past 8 p.m. and after a long day of driving, we had enough and say ok we’ll pay the 50% but would write a nasty review! She came back before we got our bill and said she will take the meal off our bill after all as she had seen the food, No apologies no nothing!
I was so disappointed as I was hoping to enjoy the delicious fresh seafood that Nova Scotia has to offer one last time before going home and this was what I got!
Never had such a bad experience with any Restaurant Staff/ Manager ever!
The location is great, not too close to the heart of downtown. We can enjoy the serenity of the surrounding area, it's close to the historical site of citadel and public Garden, with a few steps, you can ride on bus which connects you to anywhere even to the airport. The hotel room is spacious, with good air conditioning and heated floor. The room cleaning is fine but towels we're missing after the first cleaning on the next day. However the bulky air conditioner is quite noisy and our room is close to the ice producing machine, so sometimes you will be disdisturbed disturbed,
I stayed for a total of six days, the first time I booked 3 days, and the subsequent days increased every day, but the price was different each time (maybe the discount is different). The first price was 750 yuan, and the last price was RMB 1206, the gap is quite large, it is estimated that the earlier you book the price, the better.
The hotel is old and the equipment is average. The location is very good, just by the pier. It is very convenient to eat nearby. The restaurant on the first floor of the hotel is also OK. We didn't go out to eat one day in heavy rain. We tried it and felt it was not bad. Parking is charged. There is also a Japanese restaurant nearby. It is good to try.
The hotel equipment and facilities are perfect, the service staff are amiable and courteous. It can be said that the hotel’s environmental hygiene is very good in all aspects, but there is no one to clean during the epidemic, which is more troublesome for long-term people like me 😡 The epidemic is still highly recommended!
The room is large and very clean. Like many hotels in Canada, the room is equipped with an old-fashioned air conditioner, which is a bit noisy, but you will get used to it after staying for a few days. It is generally quite comfortable. The front desk service is very polite. The room we were assigned is next to the atrium. The window is the platform of the atrium. If there are people outside, they can stand on the ground and see the room directly. The privacy is a little poor, so the window is equivalent to no window. It is closed during the day and night, and the curtains are drawn tightly, although it seems that there are no people outside all day. The hotel restaurant is a bit far from the room. You need to go around several corridors and go out of the security door. The breakfast is paid separately, and the taste is good. The hotel is close to the waterfront, which is very convenient for walking on the beach.
I took my partner for a weekend staycation at the Sutton Hotel to celebrate his 40th birthday. We ate at Chop one of the nights as part of our Stay and Dine package. All the staff at the Sutton hotel were lovely to deal with and went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic.

GGuest UserWe booked for 2 nights using an app. When booking two nights straight, it will be more expensive than booking two nights seperately. The first night, the app suggested a disability room. I told the lady at the front desk if that room is needed for someone in need I don't mind changing. The room has a little more space than the 2nd room we had, but overall I would say much cleaner...with a funny smell. The second room, as soon as you get in, it smelled humid and mold; there were mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and all around the tub. Two of the towels were undone as if they were already used, and only has 1 set of towel for a 2 person staying. There were squashed bugs on the wall. On the bed, it seemed like someone stepped on it with their shoes on. (See pictures) All the staffs are very nice. I asked for extra towels and pillow cases and the lady at the front desk brought them to our room.
EErnest KurishI recently stayed at Chateau Bedford, and had a great experience. The location is very convenient, especially if you're coming from the airport. It’s also close to COSTCO and IKEA, which was super handy for some quick shopping. Getting to downtown and the main shopping malls was also easy, making it a great base for exploring the area.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the stay better. The room was very clean, and the facilities were good, offering everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, it's great value for money, and I’d definitely recommend it if you're visiting the area.
GGuest UserThe young man at the front desk was kind. The breakfast was included. It has scrambled eggs, sausages, juice, some fruits, yogurt, cereals, waffles makers, toasts, hot beverages. I like how they put at our disposition recyclable trays to bring back to our room. The room was clean-ish (except for dead squashed bugs on the wall and door). Overall, it was a nice stay.
HHamiltonOnly downfall was that the water slide was down for construction and they did not mention that at all during booking, mainly why we chose this hotel….
GGuest UserIt was unclear to me when I booked online that a “physical” credit card was required to use for a damage deposit.
*I had loaded my credit card to my wallet on my iPhone & left the physical card @ home.
(I don’t carry a purse, so this was a great option for me).
The motels policy was credit card to use as a damage deposit…NO exceptions 😱
I had offered to use cash, but, was told no 😱😱
It just so happened that I had a credit card tucked away in my glove box or I would have been out of luck…would not have been allowed to check in & would have lost $400 on the room rental.
SO…beware travellers!!
