Terracotta Warriors, also known as the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army, are located 1.5 km south of Xiyang Village, Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. They are the mausoleum of the first Qin emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The following is a detailed introduction to the Terracotta Warriors: 1. Historical Background: - The construction of the Terracotta Warriors began in 246 BC and took nearly 40 years to complete. After Qin Shi Huang unified the six kingdoms, he ordered the construction of a large-scale mausoleum to consolidate his rule. The Terracotta Warriors are part of the mausoleum and were used as burial objects. This reflects the power of the Qin Dynasty and the authority of Qin Shi Huang, and also embodies the ancient Chinese funeral culture and social hierarchy. 2. Excavation Process: - In March 1974, villagers in Xiyang Village, Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, accidentally discovered some terracotta fragments while digging a well. After archaeological exploration and trial excavation, it was confirmed that this was a large-scale burial pit, namely the No. 1 Terracotta Warriors Pit. - In 1976, the archaeological team excavated the No. 2 Pit at the northern end of the eastern side of the No. 1 Pit. In May of the same year, the No. 3 Pit was discovered. - In 1979, the No. 1 Pit was opened to the public; in 1989, the No. 3 Pit was opened; in 1994, the No. 2 Pit was opened during excavation. In 2009, researchers re-excavated the No. 1 Pit of the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Warriors. 3. Architectural Layout: - The Terracotta Warriors Pits are underground tunnel-style earthen and wooden structures. A large pit about 5 meters deep is dug from the ground, and parallel earthen walls are built in the middle of the pit. Wooden pillars are arranged on both sides of the walls, and horizontal beams are placed on the pillars. The horizontal beams and earthen walls are densely covered with wooden planks, and a layer of reed mats is laid on the wooden planks, followed by a layer of yellow earth, forming the roof of the pit. The roof of the pit is about 2 meters higher than the ground surface at that time. The bottom of the pit is paved with blue bricks, and the internal space from the top of the pit to the bottom is 3.2 meters high. - The three burial pits are arranged in a "pin" shape. 🌟 Xi'an has a long history and is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation. It is also the starting point of the Silk Road. Thirteen dynasties have established their capitals here, so it is called the "Ancient Capital of 13 Dynasties". Xi'an is one of the four ancient capitals of the world, along with Rome, Athens, and Cairo. 🌟 We stayed at the Mehood Lestie Hotel Xi'an Muslim Street Flagship Store. The hotel is very cost-effective, with breakfast included for around CNY 600. The location of Muslim Street is very good, and it is very convenient to get to popular hotels. 🌟 Itinerary: 1⃣️ On the first day, we flew from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to Xi'an Xianyang Airport and rested for a while. The first stop was the Shaanxi History Museum. The museum is difficult to book, so we booked it in advance on the mini program. Isn't a free museum great? It's worth the money. If you really can't get a ticket, buy a special exhibition ticket and hire a tour guide. The Shaanxi Museum is huge, and there are so many precious cultural relics. You should spend at least three or four hours here and listen to the explanations carefully. The kids were very satisfied with the Muslim Street and the nearby Xi'an snacks. We had dinner directly at the Muslim Street snacks. The kebabs and roujiamo have crispy outer skins and are filled with fresh and juicy marinated meat. The lamb paomo is made with high-quality lamb and special mo pieces, which are rich in nutrients. Liangpi is divided into rice skin and hand-rolled skin, and you can try both. 2⃣️ On the second day, we took a taxi to the Terracotta Warriors in the morning. We visited the Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor of Qin early in the morning. Each terracotta warrior is lifelike, and the exquisite craftsmanship of the Qin Dynasty is amazing. The shooting warriors and kneeling warriors recreate the glory of the army back then. In the afternoon, we visited Huaqing Palace, which is a royal palace with a long history. It is said to be the place where Yang Guifei bathed. The royal garden and bathhouse show that bathing in ancient times was very ceremonial. 3⃣️ On the third day, we took a taxi to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the morning. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built by the famous Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang to preserve Buddhist scriptures. We climbed the pagoda to overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire Xi'an city. Then we went to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is a 20-minute drive away. It was built during the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty and is an important symbol of the Tang Chang'an City that has been preserved to this day, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The thousand-year-old pagoda is full of charm. In the afternoon, we visited the Forest of Stone Steles Museum, which has a large number of steles and stone carvings. It cultivated the children's sentiments, and we admired the craftsmanship of ancient craftsmen who left us endless treasures. In the evening, we visited the Grand Tang Mall. The Chinese clothing performances in Xi'an are dazzling, and the lights are brilliant and beautiful. 4⃣️ On the fourth day, we visited the Tang Paradise, a cultural park built in the style of the Tang Dynasty. We wore Tang Dynasty costumes and took photos, as if we had traveled back to the Tang Dynasty under the lanterns. In the afternoon, we rented bicycles and rode around the Xi'an City Wall, overlooking the beautiful scenery of the ancient city. We imagined the great rivers and mountains of the emperors back then, and the wheels of history rolled away. After a day of sightseeing, we went home.

It's sometimes quite difficult to judge an experience in big Chinese cities as, 1. they're so huge, and 2. they're so huge. Xian is no different. It's a huge city. But … it does have some unique characteristics that set it apart from other Chinese monster cities. The "drum tower" and "city walls" that are found in many Chinese centers seem more organic, part of the city, than other places. The city revolves around these monuments and they don't seem so distant and untouchable. Although one could say the same for a city like Nanjing, Xian's relics seem more alive and better maintained. And, furthermore, temples like the Dayan Pagoda are the originals, the forerunners, the cornerstones of ancient Chinese architecture. And then there is the Terracotta Army. This is a vast area, not like in the photos you see on the internet. All the digging sites are divided into 3 gigantic halls, each with there own small museum sharing facts about the contents. The figures themselves are really well preserved. It's hard to believe that they're thousands of years old. The surroundings could do with less shops all selling the same little figurines, but all-in-all, it's a worthwhile experience. #historicculture#summervacation
