Sol Tropikal Durrës

Really nice and affordable seafood meal. The place looks awesome and had nice vibes. The restaurant is close to the pool and there’s music playing in the background. Our waiter Klindi Hasko was very welcoming and catered to our needs. Will definitely come back :)

We arrived on 25th May at 11pm in to the hotel to find rowdy people filling the lobby, the lobby bar full of noise and an extremely unwelcoming atmosphere when trying to check in. It had been raining so we assumed that this was the reason why everyone was inside, and tried to put the is behind us. In fairness, this was not the case again throughout the week so did seem to be a one off, but did not set our week off well. We arrived with two friends and their baby, and asked for some bottled water to make baby bottles, and was told these are not included with our All Inclusive package, and were directed to a water fountain… with no way of transporting the water to our rooms. Thankfully we had some empty Coke bottles from the airport and proceeded to fill these to ensure the baby could have some milk that night, before we were able to purchase some at a local store. We went up to our rooms and our friends found that their room had no cot bed… and upon reporting it to reception was asked to wait until the morning to sort it out as it was now nearing midnight. There suggestion being no bed for one of their booked guests, listed as an infant on the booking… My husband also discovered that our balcony door did not lock, and this was reported to reception who asked if we could also address this in the morning, taking our room number yet nothing was ever mentioned again about it. The next day we went down to breakfast and were greeted with uncleared tables, all unwiped tables and dirty high chairs - a theme that continued throughout the week. This was also true of the lobby, where every morning you would be greeted with tables scattered in empty glasses from the night before. There didn’t seem to be anyone proactively tidying and clearing in any space of the resort. Upon returning to our room after being by the pool all day on our first day, the bedroom door was wide open from the corridor, seemingly it hadn’t caught the latch as housekeeping left the room, which is a mistake but one that is avoidable nonetheless. The room itself was clean and tidy otherwise but we did not opt for housekeeping the remainder of our week in fear the same would happen again. When reporting this to reception they simply asked ‘Well is anything missing?’ The food was mediocre and the buffet highlight had to be the morning pastries! We ate out more times than not in our ‘All Inclusive’ week as a result, but luckily the Boardwalk one bus stop away was fabulous with some amazing well priced eateries. The bus was also about 35p per person, and could take you all the way in to the centre of Durrës for that one fare price. We did use it daily to go one stop up from the hotel; and cut through to the boardwalk, which is beautiful at night. Back at the hotel, we used our one voucher to eat in the sit down restaurant for our three course meal on our last day, but having heard bad things about it all week we didn’t have much hope. Mixed experience really, however we had great holiday despite the negatives. This was the first holiday my wife and I have had with our 2 boys being old enough to drink alcohol, so was looking forward to a more grown up break. We'd arranged airport transfer with the hotel for 35 euros, we found out later this was on the expensive side, Taxi Lux took us back to the airport for 22 euros. On arrival, we checked in, but we were early and our rooms weren't ready, but reception were great, they popped our luggage in the back room, gave us our AIl Inc wrist band and we sat by the pool for a few hours. 3pm we picked up our room keys and luggage and went to the rooms. I've read other reviews and spoke to other guests who said they had a welcome letter and sweet treat on arrival to the room, sadly we didn't, a little consistency would have been nice here. First meal was dinner, lots of choice, however not all the food was hot, some not even warm, I think the hot plate needs turning up. This continued for the whole week, so although lots of selection and hot food was great, cold carrots, cold broccoli, cold cauliflower and cold pizza was disappointing. The resort and private beach were very clean, we did see a lot of maintenance going on and painting of kerbs, but it didn't affect our stay. Entertainment/ Animation team were French, and only some spoke a little English, all the activities were catered for the French guests, so at first we felt a little left out, but I have to give the team a lot of respect, they tried to include us were possible and quite a few day activities there was only our family taking part, so we created a really good relationship with the team by the end of the week. The Gym facilities were basic, but great to have as an option, my youngest son used it a lot, but I'm not sure it's fully finished yet, there was bare wires, holes in walls and scaffolding in the middle of the room, for work still to be complete. Staff were great, always helpful and friendly, but I did get the impression that there was a staff shortage, we waited 20mins one night waiting to be served at the bar in reception. All Inc doesn't mean any drink, but there was no lists available letting you know what drinks we could have, we had quite a few responses of 'sorry that's not included in All Inclusive' but had been served the drink previously, so were left a little.confused. For a hotel who bill themselves as one of the best hotels on that area, I still think there is work to be done, especially around the food and drink. We've been to lower star rated hotels and had better choices. This is a lot of investment in this resort, hopefully once finished, they get most things right.

As stated in many other reviews, the hotel appears clean (although our ashtray hadn’t been emptied soon arrival and one of our towels were dirty) we had also been given a single sheet on our king size bed for us to use as a blanket at night time. The staff are all lovely and friendly but there is the language barrier when asking for things to do around the area. To be honest, there isn’t much to do locally! The food isn’t the best, and only one coffee machine working this morning so had to que for a long time. They also run out of the all inclusive drinks quite regularly. I did enquire about paying for a bottle of Prosecco but the staff presented me with a warm bottle of yellowish wine which didn’t even look fizzy and wanted £35 for it, to which I declined. I think, in time, it will probably catch up to the times but we found we were slightly disappointed by this experience

It was our first trip to Albania and our first stay at the Hotel Sol Tropikal. We must say we had a bumpy start at the beginning but a massive Thank you to the hotel Manager Marco who managed to sort out the inconvenience and provided excellent service and made sure our anniversary stay was comfortable and pleasurable. A wonderful hotel with great location, pool and beach. The food is great and the entertainment team a fabulous! Thank you Marco

First time in albania and found this Excellent Hotel with great facilities. The staff are very helpful and polite. I would definitely recommend this resort if you would like to come. Lovely beach access, the sea is lovely and warm and inviting.

Had a great time with my wife and family. The team of Marco, Kristiana, Jonida, Rukie and everyone else did a spectacular job of helping us from check in to check out. Pools qere amazing and the beach was so lovely. Can't forget to mention the parties they had as well as the games of volleyball and football. Would definitely visit again

Very nice stay at Sol Tropikal. Nice rooms, nice pools, and very good service, Blerina, Mejte and Eglantina were very smiling and professional at the bar. Also, people from the animation team, Aylvin, Owen, Sisso, Candice and others who contributed to make a wonderful stay ! 100% would recommand!

Our server, Klindi, was great; very helpful and kind, strongly recommend to anyone. The food was really good, true to the Albanian cuisine but also incorporating some other Mediterranean cultures. Overall, great for the beach and accompanied the scenery really well.
