I stayed at the southern sun hyde park hotel at Aug 2023 when the Bricks were held in Johanesburg, All the hotels were full and many diplomats and bodyguards were in the hotel, but they managed the situation very well, Recommended for family and business trips because of nice view, clean rooms, great restaurant, kind staff Located in a good neighborhood and beside hydepark shopping centre

I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago with nine of my friends we travelled from the States. Our first time in South Africa. Friendly staff, the front desk attendants greet you with a warm smile. Very efficient check-in process. We had modern, nice clean and spacious rooms. Great ambience at the hotel, real nice vibe, good energy to be around. I looked forward to the breakfast spread, you really get your money’s worth. Will definitely return, great location, the mall is right next to the hotel.

Had to book a last business trip to Johannesburg but due to the BRICS Summit, the company preferred hotels were full and the Southern Sun in Hyde Park was the only one in the required area with availability. I now know why and understand why they are not on our preferred list! The stay was for 8 nights (which included weekend) and after explaining my story to the check-in agent, she assured me that I would get a lovely room and would want to stay with them in future. The room was on the south side, it was dark and cold (even though was really hot at the time) and faced a brick walls. The room location aside, the hotel is tired and in need of a serious make-over and modernising. Although it was kept fairly clean, its tiredeness makes it look grubby. And the drain smell was unbearable at times. Even the air freshener outside the the washrooms on the M-level didn't do the trick! You'll need your own in the room though. On a positive note, I experienced Johannesburg to avoid having to go the dreaded hotel room! The hotel is centrally located with ease of access to the shopping mall. The view of the sunsets from the bar are also spectacular but no need to subject ourselves to staying at the hotel to make use of the nice facilities.

The hotel is directly connected to the shopping mall, which is very convenient. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The included breakfast was good and a plus. I liked the spacious gym and the pool area. However, the rooms have not been updated for about 15 years and the TVs are simply not up to today's standards. Also, the wifi connection was extremely poor and unstable, which is bad for working. In addition, one lady at reception was not really accommodating and friendly, but the rest of the staff were.

A short two nights stay at the Southern Sun Hotel in central Cape Town at the end of our cruise. Had to wait a long time to be taken to our room so we left our luggage in the hotel store and went to the seafront until late afternoon which was very nice. Had a nice snack in the evening in the lovely hotel bar. Didn’t get much chance to use the pool as it was evening time and quite dark. Would love to visit this hotel again in the future.

We went back to this hotel 10 years after our first stay. Still feels like home. We really enjoyed our stay. Except for the breakfast which was not as furnished or good as in the past. Everything was perfect. The mall next door is a plus even though it doesn't have a lot of brands represented. We highly recommend it anyway.

Visited this little gem for lunch on my first day in South Africa from the UK. I believe the gentleman who served us was named 'Siphiwe' - he provided tremendous service, was very attentive and kindly turned up the heating for us. Huge asset to the company. Food was very tasty. The internet frequently malfunctions, and my phone consistently fails to connect with Housekeeping, Concierge, and Front Desk. Despite my repeated requests to the front desk, I stayed here for eight nights in a room with a subpar view – initially facing the mall parking lot and later overlooking the restaurant's roof.

The hotel is well located and the rooftop bar is great, with an amazing selection of whisky. That being said, the hotel does feel a little dated. Staff are attentive and friendly, rooms adequate but well cleaned. Had an issue with US power adapters. Decent stay and good value for money, certainly a four star at best.

What i liked was the mall that was attached, the pool area with the DJ,the staff was amazing, they were very professional.
What i did not like was the lighting in the room is HORRIBLE! I also dont like carpet on the floor

We were here for two nights while on a tour. Food was excellent and we enjoyed eating one night at the bar while watching a game. The rooms are large, clean and cozy. The hotel is attached to a mall so we could go there and shop, have lunch and catch a movie without worrying about going out and maybe being in danger. we were told to be careful because this is a dangerous city.

I’m a Jhb Girl now Living in Cape TownI & I enjoyed my first ever stay at the Hyde Park Hotel in December. An impromptu work trip called for an extra night & the guest house I was staying at closed for season. Well, it was a night to remember & I couldn’t wait to hotfoot it back. In March my partner mentioned that he felt like a quick breakaway & listed a series of lodges & hotels. I suggested Jhb & specifically the Hyde Park Hotel. I have a handful of best friends still living in Jhb & could think of no better combination - strange as it may sound. Must people leave Jhb but let me tell you it is one of the most exciting playgrounds. After all, the people maketh the the place. And if the place happens to be fantastic… We had big plans & a long list of to-do’s which never materialised. The pool bar’s cocktails, patio menu, service, music & vibe was so spectacular that we hardly left the hotel. We watched the sun set over the Magaliesberg from our bird’s eye view, we met fabulous people, we loved the delicious breakfast & invited friends to join us on two occasions. We shared spots with the Sharks who were residing there, had fun spotting & chatting to celebrities, shopped at Hyde Park & enjoyed the super comfy room. We felt safe & spoilt. We rested well & played hard. What a superb location. It is close to Cafe Dulce, 1920 Portuguese icon & trendy Parkhurst. All within a seven minute drive. The fun starts the moment you walk through the door to a warm welcome, delicious scents & stylish modern decor abound. This is the bomb people. Manhattan is on your doorstep. * Hotspot of note *****
