"We stayed two nights, we made the reservation through Smartbox gift boxes. We had a baby and they didn't have any problems with us. The hostel has a very good location, in the low season there is plenty of parking nearby. It is very cozy, the room is very clean, the mattress is very comfortable. We had breakfast included and it is very delicious. The staff was very friendly, we loved it, we will definitely repeat as soon as we can return."

Elba Costa Ballena Beach & Thalasso Resort ★★★★

📍 Av. Carla de Orleans, 12, Rota, Rota

"I stayed at the Elba Costa Ballena Beach & Thalasso Resort in July with my family and my two young daughters. It is a four-star hotel located in a very quiet residential area surrounded by greenery and golf courses, not far from the beach. The room was spacious and clean, making it suitable for a family with children. However, the furnishings—both in the rooms and in the hotel’s common areas—look rather dated and, in my opinion, would benefit from renovation to fully live up to the hotel’s category. One of the hotel’s strengths is definitely the food: it is good and, above all, very varied, with a wide range of options to suit different tastes. During breakfast, however, there can sometimes be queues, and the coffee machine often runs out, which can be inconvenient. I would also like to mention the hotel parking fee, which is €15 per day. About 50 metres away, there is another car park where it is possible to pay just over €8 during the day via an app, making it a more convenient option when spaces are available. The staff were kind, helpful and welcoming, helping to make our stay enjoyable. Overall, the hotel is a good choice for a relaxing family holiday, particularly thanks to its peaceful location, spacious rooms and varied food. However, the furnishings would benefit from an update, and breakfast service could be better organised during the busiest periods."

"Was referred here by Navy Lodge because they were booked. Clean, simple rooms for 50 euro. There is street parking or a dirt lot about a block away. I'll give this place 3.5 stars because walls are thin and it can get noisy, especially street noise in the morning. "

"Good afternoon! I'm writing to explain what happened today. We booked two rooms and an apartment through the same company. An emergency operation was required for the person who rented the apartment. This person is the sister of someone staying in one of the rooms at this hostel (Boutique La Española in Rota) and the daughter of the guests in the other room. We sent reports documenting the situation, but they refused to issue a refund, keeping the full amount. I find it extremely unacceptable that they would consider the need for close relatives to have a vacation given the circumstances and refuse to take responsibility for something so urgent. I hope my comment will make others think twice before booking this place."

"We came for 7 days all inclusive and I could not recommend this hotel enough its not like many Spanish hotels and caters more for spanish speaking guests but this also means its much more authentic, the resort is well manicured and laid out great with pools for all ages and beautiful beach on its door step the food is amazing with an lots of options including an a la carte restaurant availability and some beautiful restaurant surrounding the hotel the staff are extremely friendly and if you make the effort to speak Spanish are patient and accommodatiing they made all effort to make our holiday perfect we unfortunately had a hospital trip on the last day and the hotel and Jet 2 kept in constant contact checking up on my little girls and went the extra mile to help us and se had an extra day whilst waiting for flights AXA insurance arranged everything to help and made a bad situation so easy and the hotel again stepped on and helped us have a due over of our last night so we where comfortable and stress free 6 days of heaven and then disaster but right back to heaven as if to say your not going home stressed were sending you home relaxed and happy we will be back and can honesty say this place is grate for families and at a greate price you get vip all the way"

"A beautiful hotel which is kept spotless. The reception staff weren't very welcoming and I wouldn't say any of the staff are friendly if I'm honest apart from Oscar in the restaurant. The food was of good quality but limited choice. The food was luke warm/cold, the heat lamps don't seem to work. Unfortunately Juan carlos who cooked the meat/fish on the plancha served everything cold and raw. He'd already 'cooked' and piled lots of the fish/meat and placed it to one side. It was completely raw and not edible! This wasn't a one off, he did this each day. This is the only job he had to do! We told the gentleman in charge of the restaurant that the food was raw and he shrugged his shoulders and never answered us I thought the idea of the plancha is to cook the meats and fish fresh to order? This isn't the service I would expect in this type of hotel. The spa was a lovely addition to our stay although the spa wasn't as clean as I'd have like and the water looked quite white and dirty. I would love to return if they could correct the issues."

"I was very pleased with my stay at Barceló Costa Ballena Golf & Spa in early April 2025. The hotel was clean and the staff were polite and professional. My room was cleaned daily and I didn’t encounter any insects or pests inside. The Wi-Fi in the room worked well, although there were occasional moments when I had to renew the connection code at the lobby, which was handled without any trouble. I had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and the selection of food was good - there was no reason to complain. The outdoor swimming pool was great too, although I mostly relaxed on the sun loungers and enjoyed the sunshine. I played golf every day during my stay. The course is in excellent condition, and the facilities for practice were also very good."

"5/5 – Unforgettable stay made extra special by the staff! We had an amazing experience at Hotel ALEGRIA Costa Ballena! What truly makes this hotel so special is its incredible team. Returning after 8 years and seeing the exact same warm, welcoming faces made our stay unforgettable. A huge, heartfelt shoutout to Ángel and Merchi, they are fantastic at what they do and genuinely make all the difference. It is rare to find such dedicated, kind people, and they are the main reason this place feels like home. We can't wait to come back! ¡Mil gracias Merchi y Angel! Espero que este comentario os sirva para seguir haciendo vuestro trabajo de tan excelente manera que lo hacéis. De parte de Jessica, Jesús y Enzo."

Playaballena ★★★★
"My family really enjoyed our week at Playabellena in August. The hotel facilities are good for the price and star rating. I think some people review based on 5 star expectations but only want to pay for a 4 star hotel. We enjoyed it and there was enough variety for a week, though a longer stay would get boring. The free crazy golf, table tennis, Pétanque and shuffle was great and the kids enjoyed them every day. The pools were great with no rush to get loungers as it didn't open until 10am. The water slides were excellent for our young kids, but for older ones there is an excursion to Aqualand for bigger slides which might be appealing. The staff were helpful and friendly. The beach is huge and unspoilt, with amazing sunsets each night. The beach bar with live music is worth a visit. There is a bit of a language issue, but nothing you cannot overcome with a little patience and google search. Ordering food, drinks and checking in was no problem at all, it was just tricky if you had a less common question. Personally I enjoyed being in a resort that was largely Spanish as it felt more authentic and less boozy than other resorts."
