Aston Hotel Riga

I had an awful experience that might help some of you decide to skip this hotel and look for better options. The fire alarm went off on Thursday night at 2 AM, and the entire hotel was evacuated. After about 10 minutes, the alarm stopped ringing, and people began returning to their rooms. No guidance was provided by the hotel staff on what to do. Only after repeatedly asking were we informed by the receptionist that it was safe to return. However, once back in our rooms, the fire alarm went off again—not once, not twice, but five times in short intervals! This made getting a good night’s sleep impossible. The hotel receptionist then started hiding from guests who wanted to know what was happening. By 3 AM, the cause of the alarm had not yet been determined, despite several guests asking questions. This certainly did not help with the peace of mind one would expect at a 4-star hotel. A night with no sleep, no explanations, and a disturbing lack of professionalism. I witnessed other guests complaining about being unable to fall asleep before 2 AM due to loud music and chatter from the hotel’s 6th-floor bar, which was booked for a private event that night. It seems that this hotel advertises the rooms as soundproof, which is a hoax. The rooms are tiny, and some have a door in the middle connecting two rooms. You can hear everything happening in the adjacent room. The management needs to seriously consider training their staff on how to respond to emergency situations. They should also make it clear that some rooms are not soundproof. This place seems to be cutting corners and saving money at the expense of guests’ safety and comfort. Don’t be deceived by the modern décor; the quality of your stay will hardly meet the expectations of a seemingly highly-rated hotel, which this place clearly isn’t. Avoid this place; there are much better options around. One star out of five.

Clean rooms, good breakfast and nice terrace. All in all it is a good hotell. However, our experience that we have with us after the stay was that the hotell takes a deposit (100 euros 2 rooms) that they promised to pay back on the day of the departure. 12 days after depature we still have not received the deposit back. We have contacted the hotell several times via phone and Messenger. The last messegage have not been replied to fora few days. The hotell claims the money has been transferred back to us but we still have not seen them. We would not have booked this hotell if we knew this would have happend. 100 euros is a big amount for us.

Zugegeben, ich war wegen eines Irrtums hier. Ich wollte eigentlich das frühere Albert Hotel buchen, das mittlerweile seinen Namen geändert hat, und war dann ziemlich überrascht, als mein Navigationssystem mich am Aston Hotel absetzte. Nun gut, warum nicht mal eine Überraschung? Das Hotel erfüllte meine Erwartungen dann aber doch nicht so ganz. Zum einen der Parkplatz: Ich hatte mich auf eine Garage eingestellt. Das Aston verfügt über einen Innenhof, der zwar beleuchtet und mit Schranke gesichert ist, in dem das Auto aber über Nacht im Freien steht. Zum Hotel selbst muss man durch den Haupteingang Treppen steigen, und die Rezeption befindet sich - eher unüblich aus meiner Sicht - im Obergeschoss. Da steht dann die Rezeptionistin ziemlich verloren im Treppenhaus herum - eine seltsame Atmosphäre, nicht unbedingt gemütlich. Weitere Überraschung: Ich musste eine "Sicherheit" von 100 Euro zahlen, die später zurückerstattet werden sollte. Das habe ich eigentlich noch nie erlebt, und mir ist auch schleierhaft, wofür es gut sein soll. In jedem Fall fand ich es zum Einstand nicht gut. Das Restaurant war schon geschlossen. Nun denn. Ich ging also aufs Zimmer. Das ist zwar optisch modern, aber doch recht spartanisch gehalten. Es fehlt zum Beispiel eine gute Kofferablage. Blick nach hinten auf den Hof. Scheinbar hatte ich Glück, wenn ich die Rezessionen anderer lese, die vorne über dem Nachtclub wohnten. Ich habe jedenfalls sehr ruhig geschlafen. Da ich ohne Frühstück gebucht habe, kann ich dazu nichts sagen. Ich habe mir aber das Restaurant aus Interesse am folgenden Morgen einmal angeschaut und meine Entscheidung etwas bedauert. Das Restaurant mit Dachterrasse scheint mir das Beste am Aston Hotel zu sein. Jedenfalls machte es Lust, einmal dort oben zu sitzen. Sei's drum!
