The Poets Inn

First of all it is Hostel and no elevator. We arrived our first day and ask them to get us a taxi, no one show up at airport. Then we got to the Hostel and no one was there they gave us instructions via email, so I went to check the email, mind you, it was 540pm on a Thursday. Then we got to the room, towels were old and stinky. Next day the breakfast was only, pieces of ham and cheese, bread and water coffee and water “orange juice”. We request that morning before we left new towels, they picked up our towels from the floor wet and fold them for us to use them. Went down the stairs and no one was there. I complaint in the morning next day about the towels and our last day and night when we came back at 7pm, beds were done and brand mew fresh towels for us 3, no one was there at the reception desk. We left the next day and no one was there either, their reception hours were from 8am to 12 midnight as of the reception young lady, but no one was there after 3pm or 5 pm no of the 3 nights we were there.

No reception to check us in. No elevator and the whole room and Inn smelled humid and no air circulation. Mold on ceiling of bathroom next to London room. There wasn’t even a tissue paper in the rooms.

Great location in Oporto for exploring the older part of town. Close to Sao bento but also bus stops. Economic option for the city. Breakfast is good and the lady who watches over the breakfast is very kind. However, staff is not there at arrival. Reception is open until 1. You will receive an email with instructions for check in. Shower has excellent pressure and very warm.

Simple, clean,central. We stayed only one night, en route to Vigo. Breakfast was included, basic, clean, friendly place. Taxi was pre-arranged, cost 23 euro. Driver asked for 33 euro. We were tired after a long day travelling and did not question. Told reception in Poets inn, who was very disappointed at this. I have read that taxi drivers are famous for this. I know all are not into rip off, but be careful. Be assertive and state the cost.

Interesting place, but not all rooms have a bathroom

Staff went above and beyond, from pre booking restaurants to gifting a lovely bottle of port on my birthday. Great location in Old Town with many bars and restaurants nearby. Cannot recommend enough. Prices are excellent and breakfast is included

It’s a cozy place!

Looking at the reviews now I see most of them are from quite a few years ago &they are living off that reputation. I understand with Covid it has been hard to keep a business going but let me assure you They have overdone it . bleach is unhealthy and the amount that they used in that room made it unlivable. I basically got toxic chlorine poisoning from staying in my room not to mention all the mildew that was in the hallway. I had to wear a mask coming and going and could only stay in the bathroom for about 30 seconds with a mask on, it was so strong I had a headache after five minutes and four days later I am still not feeling well . That said the rug in my room needed to be replaced, ( dirty) & it had a giant hairball on it, the towels were mildew stain & felt like sandpaper. This ruined the whole experience and my vacation.. So read the reviews carefully and scroll way down when you’re checking someplace out. Lesson learned.
