I booked the Sportsman Inn, but when I checked in, they put my in a much older, much used McNeill Inn. The charged me the full price I booked for, but stayed in a lesser accommodation. I went to the Sportsman Inn restaurant and the hoped for a nice meal, I was not offered any information on the specials, they brought my drink to the table, but not a glass of ice water I requested with my drink order and then tried 5 times to get the eye of the server and hostess to tables adjacent to my table to get some water or hear about their specials without even so much as a glance my way. After nearly twenty minutes without touching base with me, a group of 4 became a group of 7 or 8 holding a very loud business meeting in the middle of the restaurant. I decided to leave, and when to the hostess desk and informed the junior person there for the reason of my leaving. With so few places in Port McNeill to get dinner, I went to the Gus Pub next door, the place where I checked in for my room, and found a waitress that was very good to get me a seat, take my order and provided quickly what I had ordered. I shared my experience with the waitress and she acknowledged that the wait staff in the Sportsman Restaurant were very young and inexperienced. Just to let you know what my experience was, I completed this review. I would not return to Port McNeill on any future trips into Vancouver Island.
