We were disappointed with our stay in Kalima, though the amenities that they provided were amazing.
We waited an hour plus in the heat during check-in though we were greeted with cold towels and two glasses of cold coconut juice.
After an hour or so, a staff came to help us with our bags as well as to bring us to our room which was super inconvenient to access to — perhaps that was the intended message for the stay, to just stay in Kalima. But the inconvenience of us having to climb stairs (and more stairs) just to get to our room were causing a wee bit of distress especially after a long day of exploring Phuket.
Anyways, the staff that brought us to the room were unfriendly and it seems like he just wanted to get it done and over with. He did not even greet and say the basic greetings such as, “Enjoy your stay!” or whatever not. He rushed through the explanation of the amenities in the room, but we figured he probably have many other guests he has to welcome.
The room was spacious, clean and very modern. The amenities provided for us were amazing as they had this large beach tote bag which we carried to our island hopping trip, which also came in handy while we shopped along patong beach. The sheets were cleaned everyday, and the bed was made up with towels folded into cute little animals with REAL flower petals. No complaints on that, truly. They also gave us a complimentary box of their local dessert right when we checked in.
However, the room/service was not performing in our opinion as we received a phone call late at night saying that we were loud, from a guest just beside our room. We were just watching shows on Netflix and we weren’t even blasting the sound.
Here is where we were upset with the reception.
They told us to keep our volumes low as the guest next door had a baby. We thought that since we booked the honeymoon room, the rooms nearby or around us wouldn’t have children or babies staying over. Instead of addressing the fact that we chose the honeymoon room, the reception told us to keep our volumes low, which was (to us) kind of disappointing since we weren’t even blasting to begin with.
Also, breakfast choices were very poor. They had little halal food options and it was placed just beside the non-halal food options which was kind of questionable. As muslims ourselves, we have our reserves especially in consuming food that are suggestively placed beside the non-halal food options. It is kind of alarming considering Kalima do have a number of guests who we thought are Muslims. However, despite all that, they do have the gluten-free pastries option, which was a first.
The shuttle transport frequency from the resort to Patong beach was TERRIBLE too. The last shuttle being at 5pm, which was kind of absurd considering that it is quite early? But then again, like I’ve mentioned, it probably was intentional as it might be the intended message the resort wants to portray for the guests — to not leave Kalima resort.
Overall, we wouldn’t extend our stay or return as we didn’t really feel satisfied with our stay. There are definitely a lot of room for improvement on their end, especially with the time management and the quality of their service. Wouldn’t recommend for honeymooners though as you would probably receive a call from the reception saying you were “too loud” by the neighbouring guests with BABIES or children.
Do better, Kalima!
