Colonial Inn Extended Stay by OYO New Ulm

I should have been suspicious of this motel when my choice of payment went from night of arrival to 3 days after booking with no refunds. The room 115 had a bathroom that was a nightmare, especially because its dimensions were substandard and dangerous. Very early Wednesday morning while trying to close the door, I tripped into the shower. I reported the fall, they said they would give me a copy of the report. They lied. Nothing to date. I actually rate this a 0.

Older building, bed was very comfortable. Microwave, and small fridge along with large tv. Room was not very big, but clean. They also provided us with a ride to and from the Herman the German Celebration. The ladies there were wonderful! We would go there again!

Excellent value! Jen is awesome and accommodating and very friendly. Nice big TV to pass the time. Everything worked as to be expected. Nice hot shower and fridge was very cold. The beds were nice and clean.

We booked four rooms for Oktoberfest for our "girls weekend". They billed us the day of reservations although we were told by manager/cleaning lady that we had up to two days prior to cancel. The day we checked in found that they charged us again for these rooms but it was now $1075 higher. When asked for a print out of room charges I was told that the printer was broken and they would email me one. That was Friday afternoon and now as of Sunday evening have recieved nothing. We arrived at check in and told our rooms were not ready due to needing to be cleaned. The gentleman working the desk when we returned stated that manager had went to take shower and she had the keys. We were able to check in to last two rooms at 7pm. Observed immediately that two of rooms had no smoke alarms. No heat in 3 of the rooms and toilet in two room did not flush. Told by gentleman at desk that they were servicing tacos that night for Oktoberfest. Food state outside from Friday early evening until we left at 10am on Sunday. Office locked when we went to get plunger and buzzed the buzzer and call the phone number that it stated on sign taped to office door. I buzzed for 1 1/2 hours and called number and left message. Never did hear from them and 11 of us had to use bathroom in the two rooms that weren't plugged and backing up into bathtub and sink. Spoke with two couples that left late evening on Friday due to room too dirty (they were and smelled) and no heat. We tried to get our deposit back as promised but again no one around . There were three other rooms also attempting also. No one ever came and no deposits were refunded to anyone. The above complaints were told by others staying. They now have on their site that rates for "some" rooms are non refundable. These people are frauds. I have stayed in some bad, dirty hotels but this by far is the worst ever. We slept on top of blankets and went and bought our own new blankets and pillows. Please don't fall for anything they tells you. And the pictures of rooms must be from some rooms we didn't have because they are way cleaner and better furnishing then really is there.

We had a very good time with a friendly worker and a very clean room.

If this was not the worst hotel experience of my life, it was close. I have never seen any hotel more run-down or filthy in my life. We ended up forfeiting the money we paid for two rooms because we had to pay in advance, and driving home 100 miles late at night after a funeral. This is simply no way to run a hotel. The carpets were filthy and worn, and everything was so perfumed so that you could not distinguish the stench. We called trying to check out and had a bizarre phone conversation with a service rep. There is no redeeming quality to this hotel. You will be better off driving through the night or sleeping in your car by the railroad tracks.
