My hat goes off for the manager Brad. He was so attentive. Telling us a little history of the hotel! I’m so glad they refurbished this hotel. We are here for Mustang Week and they let them host an event! Nothing like going to the Shelby in a Shelby!! The pool area is wonderful, we like the lazy river. They had a bartender by the pool with a variety of drinks/alcohol to purchase. They also have appetizers. The DJ Alex played so many great songs. We got to dance!! Played checkers and bean toss. It was really a nice place and the bathroom was not that far. That made it more enjoyable. We will definitely be back Brad!

Good: nice staff, newly renovated, un-maked key, and hotel location. Not so good: no access to a microwave, ice access.

Very cute and clean property. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Really loved the outdoor patio and pool area. Access to the beach was just steps away. Would stay here again!

I stayed at The Shelby for 4 nights in August 2025 in a partial ocean view. The Shelby is a clean, recently renovated hotel. The rooms are very small and there is little storage space. They did not replace the slider doors to the balcony, they are very difficult to open and close. The fridge in the room is larger than most hotel fridges. The pool area is small. The lazy river is tiny. The hotel does provide pool/beach towels. I did not eat at the restaurant. What I disliked most about this hotel is that there is no place to gather in the evenings with family or friends. There is no lobby and the pool area closes at 8pm. If you are traveling with a group, this is not the place you want to stay. The Shelby charges a daily resort fee. I recently stayed at another beach front hotel with a $25/day resort fee that included 2 beach lounges, bike rentals, snacks and waters daily. I have no idea what the resort fee for The Shelby included. Considering they opened in June, it seems they intend on a "beach resort." I think it was wrong to charge the customers who stayed there this summer while they are still getting themselves off the ground, considering the gym and pool bar are still not open for the summer customers to enjoy.

I was honestly excited about staying at The Shelby. The hotel looked nice online, and the location seemed perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the beach, however, the hotel experience is one of the worst I have ever had. Firstly, the hotel advertised a fitness center, but when I asked where the gym was at, the receptionist just kind of shrugged it off, said they didn't have one, and she blamed it all on the travel site I used, calling it an old listing. An old listing? For a hotel that's only been open a month? Their poolside bar they advertise also had not officially opened when we stayed. The receptionist said something about still working on getting a license or a permit. My brother's family and I were on a family vacation, and we had separate rooms. He booked an oceanfront one. When he checked in, they said the oceanfront towers were not open to the public yet, but they still sold him an oceanfront room he couldn't stay in. Basically, they're selling rooms that aren't even open yet. This affected our family vacation as a whole since the issue consumed time and was frustrating. My wife and I's room also didn't have power in the main bed area until 30 minutes before we checked out. They told us that they would get it fixed day one, but they didn't fix it until we were packing our bags up to check out the next morning, and yet they acted like they did us a huge favor fixing it. I am also currently dealing with a folio/receipt mismatch. My brother paid for my room, but they still charged me. My folio shows only a $25 resort fee, but I was charged the full cost of the room. Dealing with the management has been difficult, because there is a clear lack of communication and lots of miscommunication between the staff and the manager I am working with. No one seems to know what is going on and everyone has a different story. I would not recommend staying at the Shelby. Maybe they will get it together, but there are much better options in Myrtle Beach.
