HCR has the potential to be great. The resort itself and the lake setting is beautiful. There is plenty of free parking and nice staff members. Several of my family members stayed here in May 2023. The rooms were nice, but overpriced! The cabins are ridiculously priced at nearly $500 per night or more. Last weekend, my family gathered for another reunion. We checked into staying at HCR again, but the room and cabin rates were just too high. Then in addition, you have a $25 per day resort fee added. Therefore, we stayed in Centerville at The Continental Hotel instead. You don't get a lake view room here, but it's just a 10–15 minute drive back to the state park and marina area. We did, however, come to HCR one day for lunch and to use the indoor waterpark. As we entered the grounds and drove by the cabins, we noticed that only one cabin had a guest vehicle parked in front of it. The others looked unoccupied, which did not surprise us based on the high rates. Logan greeted us with warmly and with fun energy at the front door. There were 3 attendants standing behind the front desk.. No need for 3 attendants, the place was not busy. The restaurant was empty except for one other table occupied. There was just 3 of us dining in house, but we also placed food orders to go to take to the waterpark area. The food was good, but the service was unacceptably slow. We learned that our server had only been on the job one week. This was the case last year as well. In May 2023, our group had lunch in the restaurant and service was terribly slow and we learned then that our server was new to the job as well. Two years in a row, we were told they were working on better staff service. I'm not sure if the delay is the server's fault, or the kitchen staff? The indoor waterpark experience was fun. The four children in our group loved it. Lifeguards were attentive. We would love to stay at HCR in the future, but until they publish more reasonable rates and improve their dining services, we will not be staying there.
