I had a really fantastic stay at Shwe Htee Mandalay - it's a really nice, very clean, welcoming hotel that is great value despite being in a pretty upmarket part of the city. I thought the staff were really lovely and friendly, very attentive too. The food was really good - we had both breakfast and room service, it was always tasty, fresh and had a good variety of dishes too. The deep-fried pork ribs and Sichuan pork were my personal favourites. We stayed for a week and everyday breakfast was an interesting combination of Burmese and Chinese food, and on the Sunday we were there they made a really good Indian breakfast. The room was spacious, bigger than I expected and exceptionally clean. Everything in the room seemed to be made of hard wood, with the exception of the fridge/freezer, which was massive for a hotel room by British standards. They had some pretty interesting human-scale statues (I'm assuming hand-carved) downstairs in the lobby too, you can tell they've put a lot of love into the place. It was very hot while we were in Mandalay, so it was a great comfort to have 24h aircon. I slept like a baby, which is quite rare for me in hotels. It was a very homey, comfortable room and the bed was very comfortable too. Shwe Htee Mandalay was great value, very reasonable, including room service. Overall the hotel was a great find and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mandalay.
