Grand Hotel Europe was opened in 1875, a classic from yesteryear. The rooms have been updated somewhat. The common areas continue to maintain their traditional allure. Location is right across the street from the lake. Grand Casino Lucerne is not too far away. The walk to Lucerne old town takes around 20 minutes. Our stay includes a free bus pass. Bus stops in front of the hotel and is around 10 minutes to the old town. The bus ends end at the Lucerne central train station. Breakfast was subpar. Dinner is expensive. Dining in old town is just as expensive. Overall Switzerland is expensive.

This is a classic "grand hotel" that is absolutely beautiful. It takes a bit of getting used to if you love modern conveniences. It is close to old town, shopping and Lake Lucerne. The staff are very attentive and friendly. But we were there in August with lots of humidity and there is no air conditioning at the hotel. You have to leave your window open at night and there are no screens on the windows. Still it was a very neat experience to stay in a place where famous celebrities once stayed and I wouldn't mind staying there again.

Very good hotel in a silent place and near the lake. The rooms were big and with all modern facilities ... Breakfast was also very good. The hotel is just 10 minutes drive from the rail station. Indian restaurants are also 10 minutes walking distance.

Built in 1874, this grand hotel primary serves couch tour groups from around the world. We saw groups from Korea, Germany, and the USA. The rooms were refurbished in 2005 and bathrooms were modern and large. Some of the common areas are getting a bit tired and they were renovating the kitchens when we were there. Miguel mixes great Aperol Spritz and Hugos in the lobby bar. The hotel is a 1 minute walk to the lake front promenade and 10 minutes from old town Lucerne via bus 6 or 8.

I don't get the bad reviews. We found this a great place to stay in Lucerne. The location is perfect with the local buses stopping in front. (BTW the hotel provides a free bus pass). The rooms may be old, but they are comfortable and a decent size The staff was friendly and polite. Nice restaurants are within walking distance and the hotel's dinners are very good. The breakfast buffet is a wonderful way to start one's day

I love the grand and impressive facade of this hotel. It will surely lure you in. However, it wasn’t a very comfortable stay. Our room was small and bathroom even smaller and quite out of date. I also learned that they don’t have air conditioning, which is common in Switzerland because it was cool at night. However, since our room was facing the street, we couldn’t keep the patio doors open because of the sound of cars driving by. One thing I liked is that bus numbers 6 and 8 stop right in front of it.

This was the nicest hotel I stayed in while on a tour of Switzerland. The room and bed were comfortable, had plenty of lights and towels, was quiet, and served delicious food. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel floor design was easy to navigate. I highly recommend this hotel!

Bartender kicked us out, trying to smash a girl at the bar. Very rude. The rooms very nice tho and great food. The views are great too and have walking distance to casino. The front desk was very helpful and polite. But this bartender really got to me.

My wife and I stayed here for two days during our recent tour of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. We loved the hotel old world charm and hospitality. It’s not air conditioned but allows you to open room windows to the cool fresh air coming from the lake and mountains atmosphere. Service was excellent and we especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Easy to walk to the gardens across the street along the lake. They also offered us free use of public transportation to ride the bus to nearby restaurants and shops. We toured the Lion Monument, shopped for chocolates and souvenirs to take home for friends. Most fun was riding the gondolas to the top of Mt. Pilatus and enjoying the wonderful Alpine mountains. Thanks for your part in making our trip to Lucerne so memorable and special.

No a/c. Only one outlet works and we use that to charge our phones. Therefore we cannot operate the fan. The room is tiny. The bathroom has one small glass shelf. No refrigerator. We would NOT recommend this hotel. We are here with Gate 1 Travel.
