The Whittington and Cat

I booked 2 rooms for ourselves and friends to see the War of the Worlds at Hull. The location was fantastic - just across the road and a 10 minute walk to Hulls old town. The facilities were outstanding. I have very rarely come across a property where you could genuinely say it was possible to eat off the floor but this property did it. After check in we met up with our friends and the first thing we said to each other was 'you could eat off any surface'. The whole place was pristine. The second thing we said was the beds were so comfy. Next -the staff. They were top notch, friendly, professional and willing to go the extra mile for the guests. When we arrived back after the show we had a couple of drinks in the bar and were made very welcome despite the late hour. We booked a table for lunch the following day and were allowed to stay in our rooms till the pub opened for lunch ( this was really convenient for us as my partner is disabled and was feeling shattered after the concert). The food was loverly, freshly cooked, tasty and very good value - we got the last table for 12.00 noon and all time slots were booked up after that. The Whittington and Cat will now be our goto accommodation when staying in Hull. Highly recommended.

It's a good few years when we were last in this pub. What a refreshing change to walk into a pub and instantly feel the welcome ❤️ It has moved on drastically. We had booked a meal on a Sunday before we went to the nearby cinema. The waitress and bar staff were so friendly. We ordered 2 steak pies and 2 fish pies and a few drinks during our stay. A bit of a wait for food but not a problem knowing it has to be prepared. It gave us a chance to catch up with our friends. Nothing was rushed and it was totally worth the wait. Check-in was smooth and friendly. Our room very clean and tidy, with everything we needed for a one night stay. This is a bed-only hotel, no breakfast. It’s situated very close to the old city centre and offers great value stays. Be aware the directions the hotel sends you are relevant if you are approaching Hull from the North. There are major roadworks in that part of town which make actually getting to the hotel difficult.
