Hotel Isla Palma

This hotel is on a private island with gorgeous views of the ocean. The beach is serene and the water very shallow and beautiful. You have to take a boat two hours from Cartagena with lots of people taking a day trip to the island to get here. Our arrival to the hotel was not inviting and welcoming as we thought with the prices they charge. We went to check in and the first thing they requested was more money for some taxes they said we owed when our reservation was paid in full. It was explained by the agency who booked this for us that we had to pay taxes as a Colombian citizen would that are not applicable to myself being a foreigner whose name the reservation was in. There were three of us. All of us live in USA near each other. One of us has her Columbian passport and citizenship but she is a resident of USA for numerous years now so these extra taxes they asked us to pay should not apply to us. We did not receive any welcome drinks when we arrived as most hotels on exclusive islands do. Instead we sat there for over an 1 1/2 hours waiting after contacting the agency to resolve this without a resolution trying to use their internet which was horrible and barely working at this time. Their internet is very intermittent and worked poorly. We decided to pay the extra taxes so we could at least get checked in and eat something because we were starving. By this time, the restaurant at the hotel stopped serving breakfast and didn’t serve lunch until 12 PM. They didn’t have a room available yet. They recommended that we go to the cafe. Everything we tried to order at the cafe wasn’t available from their menu. Under duress, we finally asked them what is available to eat from their menu to find out they only had ham and cheese sandwiches and chicken empanadas. Why have a menu if nothing is available but two things to eat? My girlfriends ordered two sandwiches, I ordered an espresso martini. The expresso martini was good. The sandwiches did not look good at all and looked slimy inside with some small pieces of pickles. My girlfriends removed the pickles and slime as much as possible and tried to eat the sandwiches but couldn’t finish them they were so bad. We walked to the spa to schedule three full body 60 minute massages later. Only two were available that afternoon. The third one wasn’t available until the next morning before we left. We walked to the beach to hang out until we could check into our room and change into our swim suits and eat lunch. We sat at a table at the hotel restaurant to order lunch. The restaurant and staff seemed to be concerned only about feeding the day trippers lunch and not the hotel guests even though the hotel guests had to pay for their lunch. One of the staff asked my girlfriends to move from our table to make room for the day trippers who need to eat lunch. My girlfriends were offended. Fuimos nueve personas salimos desde Coveñas, el sitio tiene belleza natural, el mar y la arena de la playa son hermosos, la vegetación igual, se nota que en una época fue un hermoso hotel por la dimensión de sus estaderos cubiertos y al aire libre, fuimos por el pasadía, tiene un precio de $270.000.00, ofrecen un jugo en copa de champaña, y le ponen aguardiente antioqueño si lo desean con licor. El bufet fue normal. Un caldo de pescado, carne y pescado, arroz con coco y ensalada básica de lechuga zanahoria, pepino y cebolla, cantidad una cucharada. No ofrecen café, ni una bebida adicional, al jugo del día como sobremesa. Postre: pastel de banano, porción pequeñita. No hay un solo ofrecimiento de parte del personal del hotel hacia las personas del pasadía, ni siquiera para que consuman algo adicional.Se nota la falta de mantenimiento, el sitio es limpio y amplio, ofrecen en la playa activa, música y clases dirigidas de aerorumba. Las personas del pasadía son clientes de segunda ! Son invisibles para el personal. Fuimos desde Cali, y fue el primer tour de nuestro paseo de seis días

Una hermosa playa, a la cual solo supera la excelente amabilidad de las personas que atienden el hotel, por caso mencionar a María Alejandra o Andrés, que reflejan la excelente predisposición para con nosotros durante nuestra estadía. Las habitaciones son grandes y cómodas, junto con la reserva natural y las actividades extras que se ofrecen en el hotel, hacen del lugar un espacio para el descanso seguro.
