"We stayed in the Captain Oates Room for 2 nights so we could attend a wedding at Hedingham Castle and I can't recommend enough. We arrived just before 8pm and were greeted by the landlady who was very accommodating. The room was absolutely lovely and had everything we needed. Separate shower and bath, which was brilliant for my young son who prefers baths. Breakfast was beautiful the next morning. Upon opening the fridge to get milk for my cup of tea that the jug had fallen over. I informed the landlady and just as I was getting ready to leave a lovely lady knocked on the door with a fresh jug of milk and said that she would clean the fridge. When I say lovely lady, she was genuinely just the nicest person, so friendly and chatty, even advised me when I asked her if I had my fascinator on properly. Then when at home, my husband got a call, I hadn't even realised that I'd left a ring in the room, but they kept it safe for me until it could be collected. I'd definitely return and highly recommend."

"Wow. What can I say? The owners of this place have got it absolutely spot on! I stayed here in one of the 2 bed apartments and our friends stayed in the 1 bed. Both absolutely fantastic, spotless, great location, safe and secure. Showers are wonderful. We had a few rooms due to wedding at the nearby gosfield hall. Wonderful place"

"If you're looking for a good priced, clean and comfortable room, look no further. The Dog Inn is a traditional boozer, with no thrills and the outside might put people off, but the welcome was warm and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again. When leaving, the pub is on a bad bend, so caution is required "

"Arrived at bar and staff were very helpful and polite. Room was very tied and in need of some deep cleaning and a coat of paint especially the radiator which was very rusted all across the front. Cannot work out where they had taken the pictures of the hotel rooms and Areas??. On also to stay if you like a bit of a bar atmosphere and noise from the elephants moving around at 02:20 in the morning above our room 3 for nearly an hour. Overall price was comparable for condition of the room."

"Stayed in our campervan in field opposite. Greeted by Diane who was very polite and friendly. Evening meal was absolutely delicious, one of the best meals out for a long time. Starters of camembert and prawns amazing. Mains of steak and burger cooked perfectly and again, very tasty. Highly recommend going here as a stopover or if you need a room. Diane and staff lovely people. Thankyou."

"If you're going to Tenerife and want to book an experience, you MUST go to see Carlos and his team at Autos Raymond Car rental in Playa Las Americas. They are all very helpful and informative and will take excellent care of you before and after whatever trip you decide to go on. I'd never go to anyone else for advice about a trip/experience that takes my fancy. 5Star service with the team"

"We booked room for 1 nights stay spent a few hour's at the pub, met Richard the landlord who made us very welcome plus a few regulars very relaxing first time out after 6weeks of radiotherapy it was a real tonic 😀 lovely room4 and bathroom spotless, sorry couldn't stay for Full English breakfast (thanks to Fred) we look forward to the next visit Linda&Bob 😀 😊 "

"My daughter/sil and grandson just stayed here and it was “ok” but one or 2 issues which could have been better. Friendly staff in the bar for check in but be aware “The Cottage” is not behind the bar premises where the rooms are but, behind the old police station in Halstead which is now converted into private homes. On approach to the cottage (which looks lovely and true to photos) we were warned by a female - I assume lives in the private properties, that the garden was “private property” and we were not allowed on it in quite an unfriendly manner! So not a great start to their 3 day stay. At first glance, the inside is lovely with modern furniture and quite spacious, Modern kitchen with an extra little toilet/washroom off the kitchen area which was very handy. Upstairs is the main bedroom with double bed/rail to hang your clothes up and a generous size set of drawers and 2 white fluffy towels on the bed. Really nice modern bathroom next to it with shower/modern loo & basin and heated wall mounted towel rail. And, finally a twin room with white metal framed beds with clean linen/towels. Both bedrooms have skylights for windows. Overall a lovely little place to stay for a few days BUT!!! There is No WiFi in the property (big problem for a 10 year old), lovely French doors in living room which are locked - you’re not allowed in the garden as it belongs to the private homes, so that was a shame (especially as my family had brought their well behaved dog with them). Lack of crockery/cutlery to use - lots of utensils but no can opener, only 1 mug and 3 mismatched glasses. And, finally, it rained quite heavily one day and the walls in the main bedroom got quite damp around the edges so I think a bit of maintenance is needed. A bonus is that you do get your own parking space out front 😊 I think it would benefit from having a fence of some kind to divide the cottage from the private homes and definitely install Wi-Fi but other than that it was a good stay."
