The Mallard Hotel

Nice place in an excellent location. The food was incredible.

Reception staff were very helpful, and the hotel and rooms appeared clean. We were paying over £300 per night which included an element for breakfast which could not be removed. The first room we were offered was tiny, just bigger than the bed, with an even tinier bathroom, and an open style “wardrobe” only with a couple of hangers. We were moved at our request by a very helpful young lady, to a room which was a bit better but still by no means good, and overlooking the car park. I would have been satisfied to pay £100 or so per night for this room, but at the £300 per night rate, I am incredulous that they get away with charging this much. It is astonishing, and I can’t think of a worse value purchase I have made as far back as I can remember. Restaurant service at evening meal was a little uneven, several things forgotten, food was OK only, our table ordered 2 different white wines, all 5 of us thought they were very acidic and unbalanced. Breakfast: was truly awful. Haggis, hash browns, black pudding clearly bought-in/frozen, sausage microwaved and a pale unappetising colour etc. Granola concoction inedible. Even though we were forced to pay for breakfast, on our second morning we went somewhere else and paid again.

Had an excellent stay at the Mallard hotel. Dinner, breakfast was excellent and staff treated us great. Room met our needs. Manger helped us determine best route to travel back to Heathrow airport. Our stay was spur of the minute when not being able to locate lodging in the area.

I can't thank the staff here enough, I had issues with my vehicle and called at midnight to find a room, the lady was so helpful and when I arrived I received a warm welcome from her and two other members of staff, which was much appreciated after my ordeal... The room was beautiful, as is the hotel and I awoke to the most gorgeous view from my window over the Golf course. Breakfast was amazing, and again I can't praise the staff enough for their compassion and care over my vehicle trouble, they provided me with some numbers of local mechanics. I suspect the Mallard caters alot for groups of gentlemen golfers, but they looked after this solo female traveller wonderfully. Thank you all so much

We visited on a very busy afternoon recently for food and drinks. The staff were pleasant enough but very overwhelmed. We waited over 30 minutes for drinks, were just about to say something and one of the waiters clicked that they hadn't put our order through. Received the drinks perhaps 40 minutes after ordering. We had the loaded fries which were ok but lacking in flavour - some cheese and seasoning would be a good addition. We'll try again and hopefully have a better experience next time.

We arrived early and intended to leave our bags before going for a beach walk, room was ready and we appreciated being upgraded to a room with a view of the golf course. Room was very comfortable and clean, evening meal with friends was excellent as was breakfast the following day. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. Will definitely return to the Mallard.

Really disappointed with our overnight at The Mallard. We booked in when visiting a nearby restaurant. Cramped room with a view into the neighbour’s utility room, appalling breakfast and essentially a ‘plastic pub’ environment. All for over £200/night. Terrible value.

We are all 20+ Adults. The bartender refused to serve one of my friends even though he had viable ID. And was incredibly rude towards him ordering pints. Took the IDs to the back and then returned saying it’s all fine after talking to a sensible manager. The attitude towards us was awful. Would never come back

The staff are so friendly and helpful, the room was very nice, I had a bar meal which again was very nice. I will not hesitate to stay here again. Well done everybody. The hotel is a hidden gem. Fantastic view over the golf course, breakfast was fantastic again well presented and by happy staff
