Orchard House Galle

This hotel is situated down one of the small streets in the heart of Galle Fort. Through the unassuming front door leads you into an oasis of colonial calm and tranquility. The four bedrooms are small but beautifully put together, with its 4 poster beds and spotless white linen. The AC in our room worked very well and the bed was one of the best I've slept in! The courtyard is amazing, filled with plantlife with a small fish pond in the middle. There is a pavilion set next to the lovely small swimming pool where breakfast is served. You can also relax on the huge sofa or one of the loungers and take in the beautiful hand painted ceiling. Malaka and the team are very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed 3 nights over Christmas at orchard house during our 3 week trip to Sri Lanka. While it's definitely one of the best deals to stay in Galle Fort the place has some serious maintenance issues. With only five rooms in the center of the historical city, the grounds had absolutely lovely vegetation and colonial appeal. Our room was tiny and the furniture was way too bulky for the size of the room. The tops of the closet were disgustingly dirty and the shower drain loaded with hair from previous guests. The pool was lovely and refreshing after touring all the shops and boutiques in the fort, however, the age and general maintenance was below par. Hotel staff was very friendly, however we had the impression that the regular management was out of town for the holidays. Instead of picking up all the dead leaves and trending to the vegetation, the staff spent most of their time watching television. Breakfast was great in a beautiful surrounding. Air conditioning in the rooms were old, energy inefficient and it took hours to cool down the room to 25 Celcius. Ceiling fan was also so old and loud that it could not be left on at night

L'Orchard House si può definire come un piccolo boutique hotel in cui si respira un'aria d'altri tempi. Un'oasi di tranquillità in mezzo al vivace trambusto della città vecchia di Galle. Per parecchi anni questa casa è stata in decadimento, poi fu acquistata da un appassionato australiano che la fece tornare allo splendore di un tempo, fino a farla diventare la location attuale. L'hotel dispone di 4 piccole camere arredate con mobili e quadri antichi: la nostra camera era in stile Gothic Dark, con un letto matrimoniale molto alto e completamente coperto da una zanzariera nera (guarda la foto!). Un aspetto un po' funereo che potrebbe mettere ansia a qualcuno, ma che noi abbiamo accettato di buon grado. Davanti all'entrata delle camere si trova un'affascinante cortile pieno di piante (purtroppo poco curate) con un piccolo laghetto con pesci e statue nel mezzo. La colazione viene servita sotto un antico gazebo situato accanto ad una graziosa minuscola piscina. E' possibile anche rilassarsi sull'enorme divano o su uno dei lettini ed ammirare il bellissimo soffitto dipinto a mano del gazebo. In definitiva abbiamo apprezzato molto le 2 notti che abbiamo trascorso al Orchard House. Gli unici appunti riguardano il giardino che andrebbe curato meglio e l'umidità evidente che traspare sul lato delle camere addossato ad una casa confinante, tuttora in stato di completo degrado.
