My second stay at Quinta Mae dos Homens and was excellent again. Very light and spacious room, with well equipped kitchenette with 2 ring hob, combination microwave and fridge. A long climb up from the town, but well worth it for the views over the town and harbour. Swimming pool was clean and well kept, as were all the grounds. Friendly and very helpful staff on reception. Would definitely recommend and might even go back for a third visit....

Our paradise. We consider ourselves as regular guests, and feel almost like part of the family. We come every year 3 weeks in November and hope we can continue for many years to come. If you expect a 5-star hotel with butlers around the corner and gourmet meals served 3 times a day, - you have come to the wrong place. Quinta Mae dos Homens is a place with flats of different size, and you do your own meals. But the staff is the best and kindest you can ever dream of, and so is the owner. The flats all have a fantastic view over Funchal and harbour. If you want to follow the cruisers arriving and leaving, don’t forget to bring your binoculars. The garden is full of flowers at all times of the year, and you may also find banana plants as well as an avocado tree. The pool is fine and so is is the sun bathing terrace. We can highly recommend Quinta Mae dos Homens. ❤️❤️❤️

Arrived on the 28th of December in advance of the New Year’s celebrations. Have visited for Funchal several times, but never stayed here. I have to say we have been really disappointed. The rooms are musty and outdated. We asked for an ironing board which was dirty and rusty, as was the toaster and other cooking implements. Everything needs replacing from the curtains to the outdated headboards, tables and furnishings. To top it off Our bed was changed once in 10 days. No housekeeping for literally most of our stay. There are a lot of rooms and only a few chambermaids, so I am surmising that it’s due to staffing . If you want everything to be absolutely basic, this is the place to stay, but definitely not for us and we won’t be returning . Great view for the fireworks, which was the highlight of our trip

We booked this lovely property for our first visit to Madeira and have no regrets. Great view from our apartment (#8), which was moderately furnished and a bit dated, but met our requirements as it was clean, well maintained with great service. Beautiful gardens, very nice (heated!) pool and wonderful view of Funchal bay and city centre of Funchal from our balcony. Very nice owner and manager who speak perfect English too..

Excellent stay. I had a studio apartment which was very spacious with a good bathroom and a very small kitchen area with fridge, microwave, 2 ring hob and sink. View from the balcony over the town was amazing. Balcony was very private and not overlooked. Pool was lovely and clean, and probably heated although I had the really hot week in March. The rooms have traditional terracotta tiled floors so there was some noise from guests in adjacent rooms. The only downside is that it is a hard walk up from the town - a very steep hill, but well worth it if you can manage the walk. The Quinta is in a residential area, far nicer to me than being surrounded by other hotels. Would thoroughly recommend and would love to go back!

What an amazing retreat with a gorgeous view over Funchal. The apartments are cozy and very clean, with all the basic necessities that you need. The pool area is inviting with nice views and heated water. You have bakeries and shops five minutes walk both uphill and downhill, and you are downtown in 15 minutes. We recommend renting a car, and there is free parking inside the enclosed area at the Quinta. The staff is friendly and very helpful, and we felt very much at home. And you get to see how the locals live in the surrounding area, in contrast to the Lido area witch is very “touristy” We absolutely recommend to visit the Quinta!

Had a lovely 5 night holiday at this accommodation. It's located in a more residential area up a steep hill so a 15min walk into the old town a little longer and harder back. Taxis were around €6/7 . Stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was extremely clean and functional for what we needed. The views were amazing on the balcony to sit and have food or relax with a drink. The pool area was very nice and never crowded. Reception staff very helpful, note its not open 24hrs but a contact number is provided. The grounds of the complex are very well maintained and I noticed parking was available . A 10min walk up the hill was a supermarket and a fantastic bakery, clearly very popular with the locals. Definitely would stay here again. Only negative as others have mentioned was occasionally dogs barking at night, no fault of the accommodation and it would not stop me rebooking. Thankyou for a great holiday, we intend on returning.

Last day of our week here owners and staff very friendly we had room 7 first floor with amazing see views very lucky comfortable accommodation very large great in every way Used the pool a few times much warmer than October in cyprus last year very surprising Quite apartments apart from the damn dogs locally that can be barking anytime even 4am seems to be a trait of Madeira Very secure great if you hire a car Only downside is the location if you want to go to town. Ok ish walking down in flat shoes no chance of walking up its 6.40 in a taxi unless you download the app BOLT usually 5 euro

Basic but spotless apartment with everything you need - beautiful view over Funchal and great for viewing the Atlantic Festival fireworks and watching the cruise ships come in. We hired a car but you would need taxi or public transport to get around - there is a regular bus - super gardens well maintained and a great pool area - very quiet too
