Les Suites at the Cliff Bay - PortoBay

Despite the issues created by the fire in the Avista Restaurant there was a seamless eating experience using the facilities at the Cliff Bay, it didn't have any effect on our stay and the staff in all areas should be commended for there efforts in ensuring that. On the opening of the Avista Restaurant on the 14 August there was a feeling of it's good to be back by guests and staff alike. We're booked for next year!!

Went for 5 days which included 3 meals at Avista, it was so good we paid for the 4th night. Excellent hotel, wonderful service, great views. So good we are planning to return next year - a first for us. We stayed in a garden room suite, excellent. You can use the facilities at the Cliff Bay hotel, or just use the facilities at Les Suites, which are only available for those staying at Les Suites.

This was my second stay at the paradise that Les Suites undoubtedly is. It was reassuring to see many of the original staff from my visit three years previously. The team at Les Suites are essentially the icing on a very fine cake. They are genuinely happy, helpful and do their utmost to make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. From the housekeeping to pool staff, reception to restaurant, they're all delightful. The breakfast is one of the delights of the day, Al fresco with ocean view, and a fine selection. We ate at Avista Mediterranean twice, and the Rose Garden once, and hugely enjoyed. You can walk from Les Suites into Cliff Bay, internally, which I found out this time. If you hire a car, there's ample free, secure parking, and often a space right out front. This really is a place that once you've found it, you will undoubtedly count down the days until you return!

This place has everything - incredible location, great service and facilities plus delicious food. We enjoyed every part of our stay and can understand why people come back year after year. We particularly enjoyed being able to wander out on Estrada Monumental or down to Funchal to restaurants, swimming in the ocean and salt water pool, jaw-dropping views across the bay and really high levels of service. Thank you Cliff Bay, we will be back!

Just back from Madeira Portugal where we stayed at the beautiful Les Suites at Cliff Bay is a Luxurious Cliffside Hotel. From the moment you arrive and you depart the entire staff make you feel welcome and work extremely hard to ensure the Les Suites in the Next Level in Luxury accommodation. The parking lot at Les Suites is very small only accommodating about 5 cars but, the sister hotel Cliff Bay has adequate additional parking. The reception staff were great, got us checked into our room immediately upon arrival in the early afternoon. Everything throughout the hotel is high quality from the carpet and flooring to the incredible pictures adorning the walls and other artwork throughout the public areas. Our suite was lovely with a separate king-sized bedroom with superior blackout curtains. Real quality leather couch a separate chair and table as well as a desk in the living room. Both the bedroom and living room have their own TV’s. The wifi throughout the hotel and in our suite was very good. A beautiful bathroom with two sinks, huge bathtub and a very large glassed walk in shower. The waterfall shower head and separate wand pressure is superior to most hotels I have stayed. Lots of superior quality toilet products are provided. There is a daily replenished min-bar in which the soft drinks are provided complimentary. Additional upon check in there was a delicious fresh fruit bowl that again was replenished daily. During our 9 night stay we were given 3 complimentary bottles of champagne and an assortment of fresh baked goods. The balcony is very large with a clear glass protective railing two very comfortable outdoor teak chairs and comfy cushions as we as a couch for lazing about. The very from the balcony is directly out over the cliff to the Atlantic Ocean where you can watch plenty of pleasure boats cruising past the hotel. Les Suites ahs an incredible Infinity Pool looking right out over the Atlantic Ocean with lots of high quality padded loungers and umbrellas. A very relaxing tranquil type environment with a well stocked bar that also provides snacks and ordered lunches. The landscaping throughout the entire property including the sister Cliff Bay Hotel are impeccable and the groundskeepers stay on top of it daily. Currently the hotel’s restaurant the Avista is closed due to a previous contained fire, to accommodate for this guests can have breakfast in their suites or at two restaurants at the Cliff Bay hotel. Both are excellent one is their 2 star Michelins restaurant serving to order the other the Rose Garden is both buffet and to order. There is a fantastic selection well beyond expectations and a beautiful setting and atmosphere. The coffee is very good and they also offer a variety of specialty coffees and teas. Breakfast was really a great way to start the day and everything we had was delicious. Cliff Bay has two pools one being actual salt water and direct access to the crystal clear refreshing waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I

We stayed at three hotels during our trip to Madeira and Les Suites at Cliff Bay was the most luxurious. If you can afford to stay here, you probably should. Photos do not do it justice. The suite was spectacular, rivaling the hotel rooms in Asia. Spacious, modern, clean, comfortable, and oceanfront. What stood out to me was how quiet the property is. After a day of hiking, I would go down to the pier and swim in the sea, lay out on the pool deck and then sit on the balcony and stare at the sea for hours, uninterrupted. We arrived 90 minutes early and our room was not ready, so we were given drink vouchers for beer or wine and offered the opportunity to relax on the pool deck until checkin. The pool deck is stunning. I wish they would heat the jacuzzi beyond lukewarm, but we enjoyed the pool and had a large soaking tub in the room. Unfortunately, the Avista restaurant was closed due to a recent fire, so we did not fully experience the property. Our dinner reservations were cancelled, and while they did place us on the waitlist for Gallo D'Oro, we did not get called. They did provide two alternate dining experiences, but the Mediterranian option was on the pool deck of The Cliff Bay which was chaotic, so we didn't try it. We had breakfast at The Cliff Bay one morning which was average and very busy. After that, we opted for room service which was very good. Pro tip- there are no pool towels in the room, at any of the pools at The Cliff Bay or on the swimming pier. After taking the two different elevators and walking down several levels to the swimming pier without encountering any towels, we were told that we would either have to go back to Le Suites for towels, or go up to the spa in The Cliff Bay (cannot be accomplished from any room at Le Suites without three elevator rides). Every member of the staff that we encountered was pleasant and unintrusive. Overall, the magnificent room that you get at Les Suites is a good value regardless of which resort amenities are available at your time of travel.
