Le Grand Alcazar - Riad

這種民宿實在是不太行…沒電梯，上上下下非常不方便，而且圖片都挺“買家秀”的…和正經的酒店還是沒法比…

To say this Riad is truly beautiful is an understatement. The craftsmanship and careful restoration rival many of the museums we visited while in Morocco. Every turn brought something more beautiful to look at. Despite the opulence, the staff made you feel completely comfortable and at home, especially the night manager, Youseff, who went consistently above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. At one point, we found ourselves needing an additional suitcase to leave the next morning. Not only did Youseff walk us to the shop but made sure we were given a fair price. Fez is a beautiful medieval city that can be a bit overwhelming at times and this beautiful Riad with its mint tea and cookies is the perfect place to call Home for a few days.

Riad Le Grand Alcazar We stayed at this Riad for three nights. The Riad is a 5 min walk from the main circle, where we got dropped by our tour bus. Although there is a motor-able road 2 mins from the Riad, larger vehicles cannot enter this road. We were greeted at the Riad by a manager who was not were fluent in English. He was able to do the formalities but was unable to answer most of our questions. He called in the help of Omar the general manager. Omar was very fluent and was able to answer all our questions easily. Since we were the only guest in the property, we were given a room on the ground floor. The room was large with ample space but the bathroom had a bathtub, something we do not particularly like. There was a movable glass partition attached on top of the bathtub to prevent water splash to the floor. This contraption was a bit unfriendly. Our room being on the ground floor was next to one of the sitting areas, and light filtered into our room from outside. Also the 1st and 2nd nights the staff sat in this area, till late at night, and we heard a lot of talking. This was a bit disturbing for us. However, on bringing up the issue with Omar, it was promptly addressed. Overall we found the decor of the interior of the Riad, a bit gloomy. There were almost no plants in the sitting areas, and the furniture did not give a warm and cosy feeling. The management however was very friendly welcoming and efficient. They helped us with our laundry, spoke with our tour company to help us locate the pickup point and arranged for a train station drop off on the day of our departure.

Youssef was the most amazing host. He made sure every detail throughout our entire visit was taken care of. He arranged a car to transport us from the train station and came and met us to walk us to the riad. He ensured we had dinner even when we arrived late when the kitchen was closing. I had some travel sickness and he sent up everything needed to help me recover quickly. He also arranged a fantastic walking tour guide for a customized tour of the souks and the city. He helped provide suggestions for dinner and drinks and coordinated someone to walk us to and from so we didn’t get lost. Breakfast was outstanding every morning and the riad is exceptionally clean. I highly recommend staying here and I look forward to going again in the future. Thank you for making our trip to Fes so memorable.
