Mill on the Exe

Lovely hotel. Location is ideal, right next to the Exe for a feeling of tranquility and yet only a 10 minute walk into the centre of Exeter. Room was very clean and the added extra of a coffee machine as well as a kettle for making hot drinks a bonus. We stayed for 2 nights in a ground floor Superior Room, the little outside sitting area was very welcoming with a view out onto the Exe. Breakfast was very enjoyable as was the evening meal we had. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

The Mill on the Exe is basically a large pub with rooms. The hotel part has a separate car park to the pub but it is so poorly signed that we missed it and went to the pub carpark. It would be a nice idea for them to include more info on the parking when you book and you have to go into the pub to check in. The room was pleasant but snug, no tissues or dressing gowns which for the price we would have expected at £199 a night inc breakfast. There was a small patio outside but anyone could have got into the room from it and the view over the river was not easy to see from the actual room. Breakfast - the first course of fruit etc was brought to us at the same time as the hot food which took 30 mins to arrive so we had to eat hot first. Staff were very pleasant but we felt it was v expensive for what we got so wouldn't stay again. It was in a good spot to walk to the town though.

Although we know Exeter really well this was the first time we had stayed at the Inn on the Exe. Great location along the river Exe, and our very comfortable room had a lovely view over the river & mill. Ample dedicated guest parking was a factor in choosing the Inn. We didn’t have breakfast during our 3 night stay, but did enjoy Sunday lunch which was very good, as was service in the restaurant. The minor negative being each day we had to remind housekeeping to replenish rationed coffee & other room niceties. Otherwise, a very enjoyable place to stay.

Great place to stay, fantastic view of river from our room very comfortable beds, room very clean and spacious, good facilities in room. Staff very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Great choice for breakfast a special thank you to our server, Jane, she was very helpful welcoming and friendly. Thank you to all staff for a great couple of days.

Friendly, welcoming staff - room very clean and tastefully decorated. An interesting building with a good ambience. Very pleasant view from the back rooms. Parking very easy compared to some of the Hotels we have used in the City centre Will be our first choice venue on our next visit to Exeter.

We stayed for 5 nights and found the room was beautifully appointed and very clean thanks to the excellent housekeeping team. Mill on the Exe is located in a great spot by the river and the restaurant and its garden beautifully set up and within walking distance to town and the quayside. Food and its quality are generally good, and the lunch/dinner staff are attentive. The only negative comment is the breakfast which was a huge letdown. The hot breakfast took a long time to come out eventhough it wasn't busy. The buffet never gets replenished, and its offerings on the table are limited. Could do with some bread on the table since cheese and cold cuts are laid out but nothing to eat them with while having to wait for the fryup. A bowl of fresh fruit salad would be better than some boring sliced fruits which once gone, it gone. Apart from honey and marmalade, there were no other jam offerings due to "delivery issues" . We only had them on the 5th day after the waitress rummaged the cupboards and found them. The low quality coffee and tea that are served are not up to scratch. Otherwise, all is good.

An interesting place. We had a superior room (bay window shown in the pictures) which was well appointed, clean and had river views. That view was rather diminished by having patrons eating and drinking 20 feet in front of the window. The location and the huge number of outside seats means you can enjoy a drink and river views next to the river. The food is standard pub grub and I thought a little expensive. Should this have four stars? - I can't give three and a half.

The hotel is set right by the river Ex, a wonderful setting. The hotel has recently been refurbished and everything in our room was excellent. Very comfortable beds, very nicely furnished and very good sized room. It has great outdoor spaces to enjoy weather permitting. Every member of the team in all areas were charming and helpful. The only observation is the road that runs passed the hotel is busy, we had a riverside room and we didn’t hear the traffic, it’s worth paying that bit more rather than a room on the road side.

A very pleasant room and comfortable bed. We liked the view over the Exe and the two chairs in the window were perfect for relaxing after a day out. The soundproofing was excellent with double doors into the bedroom and the adjacent public areas were no issue at all. Powerful air conditioning ! Good car parking for guests. One downside was that the shower was over the bath but at least the height was not too bad to step over. We would have liked tissues in the room and a shower cap etc in the bathroom.
