Hotel Luna del Rio is the best place to stay in El Castillo. Marga and her lovely family and staff will welcome you with open arms, and they go out of their way to meet your every wish. The small hotel has a lovely location right on the river, very central to the small pueblo. Rooms are spotless, breakfasts are delicious, and they will set you up for all the tours and transport you need. Our four days in El Castillo and on the Rio San Juan were fun and fascinating.

A beatifull small hotel on the river. It is very clean and a great atmosphere! Everybody was so friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast was prepared. We loved our stay here and unfortunately it was only for one night! We will be back for sure! If you want a great stay in Rl castillo , this is the place to be!!

From the moment we arrived at the small port to our departure we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.Margarita and her husband Manuel could not have done more for us. The rooms are compact but clean and comfortable and the balcony a haven to sit and watch the river and bird life. Breakfast and dinner were provided and even a lengthy power cut were dealt with as they have a generator. The trips we took were memorable and arranged with quiet efficiency. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay in your wonderfully unspoilt special place in Nicaragua

Beautiful rooms, fabulous host, delicious and plentiful breakfast. Marga connected us with an incredible adventure on the Indio Maiz reserve with Camping Tours Indio Maiz that was next level for birds, wildlife, plants and cultural experiences.

Margarita and Manuel looked after us so well in their hotel, which is practically a ‘Homestay’ - with delicious home cooking, amazing service and genuine friendliness. El Castillo is on the Rio San Juan, which is its only way of access. We came downriver from San Carlos and entered another world - one which we’ll never forget! Their is plenty to do in the area - visiting the Castle itself, walking around the village, visiting the local Cocoa processing Co-Operative and tasting the fabulous chocolate and hot chocolate at Danny’s Cafe at the harbour. We loved our stay in Nicaragua, but El Castillo, and particularly Hotel Luna Del Rio, was our favourite part…

I had a wonderful time at Luna del Rio. everyone was so caring, that i felt totally welcomed all time. The rooms are small, but really nice and clean. Perfect breakfast with view over the Rio. They helped me arranging activities and gave good recommendations. I would come back any time. Muchas Gracias a Marga & co.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but Celia organized an unforgettable overnight tour into the Indio Maiz for us. Our guides Dennis and Priscilla and their family provided us with food, laughter, an expert eye at locating wildlife and knowledge into the jungles ecosystem. Celia was also very helpful in arranging our boat and bus travel back to Managua. She even checked in with us to make sure we made it. I would recommend the tour to everyone. Gracias por todo!

The hotel is located right in the center of the village and everything seems new. The rooms are super clean and look nice, everything being made of wood - and the shower even has warm water. But what I liked best was the super kind service of Marga and her team. They even organized boat tickets from San Carlos for us in advance. We also booked a tour with the hotel, staying one night in with a family and exploring the Indio Maíz. The tour was nice and enjoyable, with it being a great experience learning how to make chocolate and seeing how a family lives. We also had quite a lot of down-time, so if you are looking for an intense hiking or kayaking adventure, then I would suggest a different type of tour.

Fantastic hotel overviewing the river, giving you a bella vista every time of the day. Rooms are a bit cramped, but its hygiene, bella vistas, location, excellent big breakfasts and especially the staff makes you love it all!
