I've been in Cuba many times over the years. Kind of know by now what to expect and when reading the reviews I know how to filter peoples opinion. I ignore the ones they list all the names of the staff, they were asked or paid ( bottle of rum usually) to write nice reviews, also the "home away from home" ones, they have no reference point and I don't go on vacation to make lifelong friendship with the waitress and cleaning lady. Lately started to take seriously the reviews talking about no bread, no eggs, no water and beer or rum? I always hunt for last minute deals, don't have a preference where to go, beaches are beautiful everywhere I went and it sounded like shortages all over Cuba regardless how may stars the Hotels have. So I came with lowered expectations... Maybe that is the secret to enjoy a vacation? There was bread, eggs, water and maybe the most important beer and rum was available all the time. There was spanish red and white wine (was not bad) and even Red Jonny Walker and Gin. Tonic water was a hit and miss and sometimes Cola too. I am used to not being able to have cocktails I like ( I don't drink Pina Colada or sweet drinks), they don't have vermouth or bitters like Campari and was no mint for Mojito. The beach it is like a vison. You will forget any shortages when you will see it, sitting at the beach or beach bar is mesmerising. You can go long walks on both side of the resort for kilometers there are no other resorts except the two neighboring ones , really really nice. The resort is a mature one, that means the rooms are a bit outdated and TV was a joke. I got the Junior Suite, spacious clean, no mold, no cockroaches. Water was provided for the room and when not I got the bottles refilled at the bar, no big deal. Had no problem with fresh bath towels or beach towels, they had plenty available. The usual... the cards for the door got "demagnetised" a few times but the safe worked and had no problem with the AC and it is adjustable. Food in the Buffet was repetitive but well prepared and I had no problem overeating...My favorite were the crockets. I do not understand the obsession with the bacon when reading reviews, yes there was no bacon, but there was prosciutto and plenty of cheese. Fresh guava, papaya and pineapple. There were sweets but not as nice as I had other places. Salad dressing seams to be an issue in all the resorts, there was some but they run out or I was not sure what it is. The last place I was in Cuba, they put BBQ sauce for salad... There was some seafood, fish and I mean by fish not tilapia but no shrimp, crab or lobster unfortunately. Tried the Portuguese Restaurant was surprisingly good. I should of skip the Italian, I don't see what is the big deal eating pasta with some sauce on it. My only disappointment was the entertainment. Mostly the entertainment was happened in the Lobby ( DJ playing music), one night was a saxophonist another night a singer, those were nice but no Cuban band and no shows. I
