Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel

I would not stay here again. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the room itself was lacking. Outdated bathroom with a bathtub that had nothing to keep you from skipping to the bathroom tile that just as slippery even with the floor towel. The room was big and clean with a nice bed but the lugging was awful. There were 2 side tanks lamps, 1 floor lamp, and a desk lamp(didn't work). Even with the 3 that worked out was still very dimly lit. The pipes in the wall sounded like they were going to bust when a another room would turn on their water. It was so loud. When I booked this room it said it was a 3 star hotel, more of a 2. Without the staff a 1. There not being an elevator to the second floor was tough. Then there were 2 sounds at night. One sounded like something cheering on wood above me, and the other was something tapping on the wall. There was an extra charge when I checked in that wasn't on the site when I booked it. This could be the hotel or this dues fault, bit sure. My rating didn't really reflect the start because of the categories.

Awesome place to stay, definitely coming back if we are in town.

- Enjoyed the small patio with table and two chairs outside the room. - Hot tub water is dirty and gross. Jets very lame and temperature just warm (not hot). Overtaken with kids (happens everywhere). - Pool is large and has very deep end. Also gross water. - Room is remodeled but a bit musty smelling. - Only 2 hangers - No luggage rack - No shampoo - Nice shower & new towels - Large flat-screen TV - Ocean is about 15 minute walk, crossing busy streets, dirt paths, then ending up at large cliff overlooking ocean. Access to beach shore is another 10 min walk.

The rooms were decent with renovated bathrooms and good counter space by the sink. The room seemed clean However, there were many areas in the hotel that needed attention. The ice machine near us didn’t work. There was no power in the gym. The map was on a half sheet and was so small you couldn’t differentiate the symbols. Although the pool water was clean, the pooltec needed to be cleaned. It seemed to me that the spa was very hot. No one told us food was available in the food hall - we thought it was only for receptions. They had a laundry room but they were sorry it wasn’t working. They could also use a few directional signs to find buildings and the pool.
