I booked to stay at Top Star hotel in a Queen room for 2 nights during my visit to Cabanatuan. The hotel looked pleasant online and I was looking forward to my stay. I arrived early with my partner for check in. The front desk were obliging however charged 500 pesos for the early check in. When we arrived in the room we were immediately overwhelmed with the smell of damp. On closure inspection black mould was seen on various wall surfaces and on the edges of the carpet. I called reception and the member of staff was very nice and apologetic, she offered to have house keeping show me another room. After inspecting a further 4 rooms I concluded that they were all of similar damp condition. I was then offered a suite which looked and smelled fine.... fine that is until we activated the aircon and the same damp mouldy air was being circulated... I personally have an Allergy to this and so does my partner so after an hour we both began to feel unwell. I wrote an email of complaint and forwarded to reception I requested that I be refunded for the stay and I would move to another hotel. When I attended reception I was advised by the manager that they would only refund for 1 night of my stay which is ridiculous as my reason for cancelling was due to substandard conditions detrimental to our health. I informed the manager that I would then be lodging a complaint with the Department for trade and industry in the Phillipines which she didn't seen all that bothered about. This hotel has serious damp issues that need addressed, so my advice for anyone with asthma or any allergy condition is to avoid this until it is addressed. If a hotel wants to charge as a mid level hotel then it also has to perform at that level. I will continue to pursue my refund as this is in total violation and morally incorrect . On a positive note the housekeeper and receptionist were very nice and professional and the reason for my service low score is purely down to the managements failure to refund.
