I didn’t want to write this review but I feel like I am left with very little choice as Divegurus have not been responsive. I feel it necessary to warn other tourists if there is a risk of theft. My partner and I arranged via our hotel to have a scuba diving lesson. We also had a guide with us from My Boracay Guide Adventures. On the way to the venue we had to pay the guide for the experience. We withdrew PHP20,000 on our way to the experience to pay for the scuba diving and other experiences we had booked. The guide was with us the whole time and witnessed us withdrawing the money and we have a receipt for the withdrawal. We paid the guide PHP6,000 and went immediately to divegurus. We did not go anywhere else The money was in my partner’s wallet which was at the top of our dry bag that we left on the table at divegurus whilst we completed the first part of the training on the beachfront. Obviously you are underwater while the training happens. We then took the dry bag on the boat with us when we completed our main dive. When we got back to divegurus just by chance my partner checked his wallet and found there was only PHP12,000 inside when there should have been PHP14,000z. As we had only just withdrawn the cash it was all in PHP1,000 notes and it was easy to spot that the money was missing. We couldn’t be certain if the money had gone missing while in the shop or while we were on the boat, however, we noticed that there was a CCTV camera inside the diveguru shop. We spoke with our guide whilst inside of divegurus about the missing money and we requested that the CCTV was reviewed. We also informed our hotel, The Lind, about the suspected theft. The team at divegurus had seemed very friendly and we actually had a great scuba diving experience which is why we initially didn't want to write this review. We assumed that they would want to help us and that they would be willing to share the CCTV footage promptly to help us figure out whether any theft had occurred whilst the bag was inside their shop. We found it very suspicious that only PHP2,000 had gone missing and we were fortunate to know exactly how much should have been inside the wallet because we only withdrew the money on the way to the experience. We believe that only some money was taken so that it wouldn’t be noticed and it suggests that this this is something that might happen regularly. Our diving experience was on Thursday 26th September 2024. Our hotel and My Boracay Guide tried to assist us by contacting divegurus and requesting the CCTV footage before we left boracay, however, we then got a strange story that to access the CCTV footage requires permission of a general manager. We were told that the general manager was in Cambodia and that the reservation officer had sent a request to the general manager to access the CCTV. This seemed slightly odd as we felt that divegurus would be happy to help us to prove that the theft did not occur on the
