Due to flight delays, I arrived six hours later than I was supposed to, but a last-minute call to the hotel was all that was needed to update my arrival time and notify the driver that was sent to pick me up at the airport. The drive from the airport took 15 minutes although I did have to wait for the driver for ten minutes after I exited customs. I was quickly checked in by the friendly receptionist. I found everyone at the hotel friendly, and all receptionists I talked to spoke excellent English and were knowledgeable about the area. In the restaurant, their English was fine, too. My room was on the 17th floor. It felt like 1995 all over again, but while it wasn’t modern, it was in good condition and felt clean. It was not very large, but filled international four-star criteria nicely. Note that if you come expecting a five star hotel, as they claim themselves to be, you will surely be disappointed. The room came with a comfortable bed, with a socket by the bed. There was a desk, an armchair and a coffee table as well as a minibar and a safe that did not work and was not fixed, despite several attempts of talking to staff about it. There was a complimentary 1.5 L water bottle in the room, replenished daily. The minibar was reasonably priced (0.5 L water bottle was 0.55 USD). Wifi was free, unlimited, fast, and reliable. A/C worked well and kept the room cool while the temperature outside was 27 °C. The bathroom came with a shower and bathtub combo, with excellent water pressure and ample hot water in the handheld shower. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion were offered in wall-mounted containers. For hygiene reasons, I much prefer individual minibottles, so I hope the hotel would save money somewhere else and provide minibottles instead of these wall-mounted containers. No other amenities were provided. Towels were an erratic lottery – if you won, you got a bath rug, face towels, hand towels and bath towels. On most days I lost, meaning the cleaner left some of those out, and sometimes I only got one, sometimes two of each. Go figure. There were no slippers or bathrobes although two bathrobes surprisingly appeared in the room on my last day, without my asking. The swimming pool was closed during my stay, and this seems to be permanent. Breakfast was served from 6:30 to 11 and cost 20 USD. The buffet was mediocre. It included lots of local alternatives, but the Western cheeses and cold cuts were of low quality. Yoghurt and fresh fruit were available. The egg station prepared omelettes that were large and tasty. The breakfast room is also open for a very limited all-day menu during the days and evenings, more cafeteria than restaurant style. There are no other restaurants in the hotel. Electricity in the hotel went out a few times each day, but the cuts lasted for less than a minute, sometimes only for a few seconds, probably only long enough for the generators to kick in.
