Apex City of Bath Hotel ★★★★

📍 James St W, Bath

"We stayed one night at Apex City of Bath Hotel. The location is excellent, and the night‑shift manager was quick to respond when we raised our complaint, however our overall experience was really poor because of repeated hygiene problems with the beds. It was nearly 11 pm and we were ready for sleep, when we discovered mould‑like marks on the bed sheets in our original room. We contacted the duty manager straight away, and we were moved to a different room without delay. Unfortunately, on arriving at the new room, we found hair left on the fresh bed sheets. We were exhausted and very late in the evening; otherwise we would have asked to check out entirely. A member of staff then came to replace the full set of bedding for us. During the bedding change, further issues were uncovered: visible yellow stains on the mattress underneath, and yellow stains also on the duvet itself. While the staff tried their best to resolve the situation at such a late hour, it is unacceptable for a 4‑star hotel to have multiple bedding‑related cleanliness failures across two separate rooms. We felt uncomfortable for the rest of our night. We hope the hotel will carry out a full review of its housekeeping standards and mattress / duvet condition."

📍 Broad Street, George Street, 1 York Buildings, Bath

"The check in was dire. A sign said check in closed this was at 4pm. No one in sight, no idea what to do 🤷🏻‍♀️after about 10 mins a woman appeared. They couldn’t find our booking, were we st the right place as there’s two in Bath. Yes we definitely were. No sign of the booking despite have a booking number. Then it was discovered in paperwork, apparently we had already checked in!! Room 210 it was a disabled room so mirror in the bathroom at chest level 🥹and railings everywhere. Very noisy over night as it was at the front . No breakfast just a box option but we did overhear the lady on reception tell s customer that Waterstones next door did food. Gosh I thought they sold books !!! They would be better off in Weatherspoons 🤣🤣"

Hampton by Hilton Bath City ★★★★

📍 Avon St, Bath

"This hotel is part of a chain, so you can count on the quality being consistent across the board. Its prime location in the heart of the old town makes it incredibly convenient for walking to the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and the River Avon. Despite early May not being peak season, the hotel was quite popular with a high occupancy rate. Breakfast is served on the ground floor in the lobby, and while it can get very busy during peak hours, it's always well-organized. They offer a full English breakfast with all the usual trimmings. The rooms aren't small, but trying to open and lay flat two 28-inch suitcases might feel a bit cramped. We booked two twin rooms and one double room, staying for two nights, and found all the services to be excellent – clean, tidy, and quiet."

"This hotel is so lovely, we wanted some peace and relaxation and it couldn’t have been more perfect, the spa area is gorgeous really relaxing, the hotel room was gorgeous very spacious and the bed was very comfortable, it was my husbands birthday and there was some lovely truffles and card in room. The grounds are beautiful, only thing I would say was the breakfast was really expensive more than our evening meal £30 which is really expensive I think. But all in all lovely ☺️"

"I understand that temperatures in Bath were extraordinary, but the hotel has no AC, so our room was unbearable. We were asked on check-in if we preferred a room with a view, or a cooler room, we requested a cooler room. I don't know how people coped with the rooms with a view. We also paid for breakfast for 2 for both mornings, we did not receive it. I don't know if you have to ask at reception for it, but there was rarely anybody in attendance, so we went next door to Wetherspoons instead. Check out was 12 pm, we left around 7.30am due to lack of sleep, not ideal when you have a 4 hour journey ahead. Overall not a pleasant experience."
